Normally I stay far away from "modern" whiskies bottled 43%. But this one is an exception to the rule. Pretty good at a fair price (if you can still get it). Well done Signatory.

Lovely and pretty elegant nose. Tropical fruit-basket with for sure some pineapple upfront.
    • Taste
      85 85
In spite of the low abv, this whisky has a full body. Maybe even a bit alcoholic which you normally do not find at 43%. Fruit-basket also continues in the taste.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium long, dry and somewhat bitter.

Head 2 Head with sistercask: 98835. Both 20yo Glenallachie SV at 43%

Overall this cask is the winner without a doubt. It provides just that bit of extra complexity and other dimensions than it's sistercasks in 98835. Both were not that expensive, around 50-60 bucks I believe. Which makes this one a bang for your buck and the other one just nice to enjoy but still worth buying.
    • Nose
Oeh that is one sophisticated nose! Very gentle, mild, well balanced but still...very subtle at the same time. There is a lot in it. It has better layers than it's sister cask. again I can smell that typical dusty blanket covering the whisky but in a more subtle way than it's sister. Sweet white wine notes and apples but also some traces of red fruit, forest fruits maybe. There is also a hint of old wood. I guess this hogshead have had more ex-sherry staves involved. It gives the nose that more complex touch which I was missing with cask 98835.
    • Taste
Oily arrival. A little more bite in this one though. definitely more peppery. Adding some water eases it down and makes the fruitiness come out better. Body is thick enough to handle a bit of water. Works out great. Cask 98835 was to fragile for that. It gets soft and gentle after a while
    • Finish
Medium-long length. Quite a lot of tannines in the initial finish. Which is on the edge of disturbing. But right when it starts to be that, it disappears and a very nice wood influenced finish starts to appear. Besides that not a lot of aroma's are to be detected inhere.

This one has a fairly good nose. Overall this is a decent whisky

      Good nose!
This gives a bit of wine, hay, straw and sawdust. It's rather complex but also very easy accessible.
After a while there are some sweet peaches popping up.

Sweet, a touch of lavender, overall sucrose sweetness. There is hay, freshly cutted grass and some fruity notes aside.
      Decent stuff, no flaws.

Medium length. A bit dry, and a little tannic. It fades away with some wood notes.

  4. Kaltduscher scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Tropical fruits. Orange abrasion. Honey. In the background, subtle echoes of oak.
    • Taste
Sweet and fruity at first. Tropical fruits. Gummy bear. Honey. Drying with a beautiful oak flavor. Some pepper.
    • Finish
Long. Tropical fruits. Malt. Roasted almonds. Oak spice.

Horny Malt! The combination of pineapple and oak I like extremely well and fits in my opinion perfectly together. Not really complex, but something different, which I did not have at all, or not too often in the glass. Easy Drinking with a nice maturity.
    • Nose
Tropical fruits. Ripe, juicy and sweet with a light acidity. Pineapple and mango. Behind a non-intrusive, but clearly existing oak flavor. Something malt sweetness also plays with pure.
    • Taste
The fruits are immediately back, but the oak presses significantly more than in the nose and puts the pineapple in the background.
    • Finish
Here are the pineapple and the oak at eye level. The slightly dry and sour feeling after eating a pineapple in the throat I have 1: 1. Then the mango comes again and goes into the malty. Everything accompanied by the oak.
