Very oily - fresh grass, some ozone, slightly spirity but some white fruits - apples and pears - suggest its relative lack of age.

The palate I found initially hot and spikey - with smoked oranges and ginger emerging! Some vanilla - is it a vatting of bourbon and sherry casks?

Some bitter teas accompany the smoke and a slightly soapy drying finish.

price based on issue price, its too expensive today :(

Good behavior, a good balance, a fine and light smoke. This first jet already augured well good.
    • Nose
Malty, young. Slight iodine. Yellow apple, and a very light smell of fresh straw.
    • Taste
Honey, vanilla, iodized and dry smoke. Good hold in the mouth.
    • Finish
Dry wood, apple peel, and sweet spices.

Enthusiastically about this new discovery in the market ev. At the time of my graded too high. But still have today no reason to correct down. - According to the not very clear Internet information from www.kilkerran.com from 2010, this drop could contain fractions of up to six different barrel types.
    • Nose
Awakens yearnings: dry and soft at the same time, slightly acidic, flower meadow, spicy-sweet, really complex
    • Taste
viscous, tastes of licorice, honey, tartness
    • Finish
now an explosion of bitter cloves (some colleagues perceive smoky ashes there too), broad sweeties, orangeade

OK, new whisky distillery is new, clearly too young. Spirity burning in the nose, grain and malt and perhaps a tendency of apple. Very powerful and burning on the tongue, a pure sweet taste of grain, sweet, sour and bitter at the same time. A medium long finish, hot pepper and bitter fruit bowls. For starters, pretty neat, but there is certainly better after.

The three Kilkerran Work in Progress releases have no distillation/bottling dates or age statements. Here`s how to tell the difference:

White label and tube: 5yo WIP 1 2009

Grey label and tube: 6yo WIP 2 2010

Green label and tube: 7yo WIP 3 2011

Difficult to compare this with the 3 & 4 year old variants from the
last two years, because its a vatting of bourbon and sherry and has been
reduced to 46%, but the maritime character of it remains, if not so
strong. This is a good release by the owners of Glengyle and very
reasonably priced too. Some of the other marketers could do with
looking at this to learn how a solid customer base is built.
    • Nose
Apples, pear and banana. Very malty, a little feinty. Powerful salty tang.
    • Taste
      Grapefruit, salt and some vanilla.
    • Finish
Lots of salt and spice. A hint of the herring barrel. Some woodspice.

  18. Feusi scored this whisky 74 points Connoisseur

OK, new whisky, new distillery, clearly too young, impetuous, and sprity burning on the tongue. But the approaches are good that suggests a positive future, isn`t it?

A very very good whisky, which starts with classic notes for a malt of its age (cereals, green fruits not too ripe, malty) but which evolves on more grassy notes, of the earth ... it seems older than its age, it is already very well balanced and round ... a very nice discovery ... Drink at the cocktail or during a walk in the fagnes (Belgian Ardennes) ... Considering the price, a malt to try.
    • Nose
The nose is very cereal / malty, then evolves on green fruits (apple, pear), a grassy side, floral, woody, a little smoky ... very soft and pleasant.
    • Taste
In the mouth, quite faithful to the nose with a lot of spices and more, vanilla ... well present despite the 46
    • Finish
Continues with a beautiful finish with a greater presence of smoke, damp earth, fresh grass, malted, vanilla, woody (in the good sense of the word).

    • Nose
      Relatively aggressive, powerful, reminding
of Octomore and Kilchoman. Notes of salt, malted barley, hay, oak, dryness and smoked
meat. It is definitely intensive, something peat lover might enjoy.
    • Taste
      Relatively powerful, intensive with hints
of sourness, bourbon, light bitterness, but also accompanied by unpleasant
      notes of spirit.
    • Finish
Rather long, smoothly sweet and sour, as
well as filled with hot pepper and light bitterness.

Much better then expected, the whisky is only 5 years old, for god sakes.
    • Nose
Very sweet, and the smell of wet paper is absolutely there.
    • Taste
Sweet and smooth taste. And good oak notes.
    • Finish
Short to medium long finish, little to short. But the finish fits the taste really nice.
