Haven’t had too many Blair Athol, but I do always like the underdogs and blend workhorses.

This one starts off wonderfully, but the oak had a little too much to say as it went on. Beautiful nose, really stunning. It’s so lively and fresh that I didn’t foresee it becoming as bitter as it did. A dram to nose all night then.

Waxy juicy fruit, birch syrup. Jellybeans, elderflower, lychee, kiwi, Asian pear, apples. Grassy with a vein of herbal freshness, tarragon perhaps. Very juicy with a good amount of firm oak. A little smoke emerges after 45 minutes or so. Really beautiful and complex.

Juicy (same as above), grassy, waxy, quite oily and very nice to start, but bitterness grows. Ideas of grass turn into the taste of it. Wheatgrass and cannabis notes start to build into the finish.

Oh no, I get a little soap. It only comes on the finish and doesn’t linger, so it’s not too bad. Big oaky notes. Bitter grass, still juicy and oily but not as balanced as the nose. Long finish with oak lingering.

http://kaypingers-whiskyblog.de/frontend/fullarticle.php?id=260 Color : pale gold Nose : Fat, malty, heavy caramelized aromas of brown cane sugar, hazelnuts, nut nougat cream, salt, vanilla sticks and some honey. Taste : Soft and salty-spicy. Wood, dried herbs and a fruit sweetener with some soap and a slight perfume note. The salt is always present, but bitter notes dominate the second half of the taste. The still slightly soapy notes go into the finish. Finish : Medium length - malty honey aromas, dry wood, herbs and in this combination too bitter. Green tart notes in a soapy, light sweetness stick to the tongue. 85 points (nose: 88 / taste: 85 / finish: 83)
