Whisky Reviews for Old Pulteney 2006 CA

Did you ever try new-make? After 11 years in a lazy refill cask, this independent bottling of Old Pulteney remains utterly spirit-driven. Clean, light and very citrusy, the aroma starts with cereals, sour grapes and mint leaf before subtle notes of yeast, white fish and salt emerge. The arrival is crisp, herbal and sparkling, followed by unripe pears, honey and distant tannins in the development. Not very complex, but enjoyable. Over-brewed tea, lemongrass and Ika Mata accompany the minty-fresh aftertaste. This Single Malt would make a great toothpaste!

[April, 2017]  I had a tasting sip at Limburg whisky fair (too small to do a full review) and scored it as a preliminary impression with 83 points.  An easy-to-drink dram with an intense malty profile both in the nose and on the palate as if chewing liquid malted barley.  Quite nice and interesting for such a young whisky...

A very light whisky, almost new make like, but just enough subtle cask influence to keep things interesting. Especially the nose is really likeable, subtle malty cookie smells with sweets on top. Falls away a bit in taste and finish (which is almost absent).

Light, clean and subtle. Pretty eventful for such a 'light' whisky. Mild flower honey, grain and cereal, whole grain cookies, salted butter, floral (a whiff of lavender), green apple. Water and extra time brings out a fruitcake sweetness and maybe even some turkish delight, after half an hour to an hour a subtle white wine sourness emerges along with some aniseed and sawdust.

Alcoholic, though a little water and a good amount of time tune this down quite a bit. Very light body with some honey notes, dried apple, grainy biscuits and sawdust.

Virtually non existing, though initially I observed a little honied liquorice. In successive pours I could only discover some peppery bitter wood notes, but nothing really outspoken.

Nose: Delicate. There is a salty smell, there are also some bourbon bar influences noticeable. The first impression is that there is little to experience. In the distance you can still discover a bit of acid. Some caramel syrup comes up with water, along with some sawdust.
Taste: Fresh acid, light sawdust, sweetness, this reminds me of Napoleon acidity. In the distance there is still some fruit to discover.
    Body: Thin and rather weak
Finish: Short in length. Some toffee, some sawdust and more wood. Furthermore, a little sweet.
Comment: This is not too good. No standard OP, but also not recommended as 'once a different OP'. Especially the thin is not best. I give 80 points. Tis to drink and not dirty, but this could clearly have been better.

I do not think it's that special. Moderate dram, I expected more.
    • Nose
Vanilla. Apples. Apricot. And a good tinge of alcohol. Slightly sour and musty, but also fruity.
    • Taste
What flat, less than the nose promises. Floral, slightly sour. Little spectacle. Flat and boring, not much happens. Little watery even.
    • Finish
      Map.

Don't want to say that, but it is like a new make to my tastes.
    • Nose
Spirity and young, peaches and pears
    • Taste
Very harsh alcohol tasted the same as the noses
    • Finish
      Short, one-dimensional
