  1. Calmar scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Quite a varied and deep grain whiskey, well balanced, bright, fairly light and spicy.
    • Nose
An open, moist, strong bourbon influence - vanilla, resin, needles, salted grape leaves, freshly piloted wood, canned corn, popcorn.
    • Taste
Dense, oily, needles, resin, fresh wood, vanilla, tropical fruits, fried nuts, cappuccino.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, resin, grapefruit crust, vanilla, oak.

N- Flambe a crepe suzette in a library, the scents of orange caramel, enfold in the fragrant of an old books are just amazing, soothing, mellow and sweet. The combo are well evolved to toffee, butterscotch and roasted sunflower seeds. Fat texture and buttery.P- Balanced, fruity sweet lychee and peach, hoped to receive more seasoned wood, which seems gone missing here. Tasty, but lacking width, which often happened on an old grain whisky. Greasy.

F- Medium, the fruity notes dressed with some spices, mellow and heaviness sunk in.

N: Instantly likeable and with more complexity upfront than the flawless yet simple Glendronach 12 'Original' i had enjoyed a few nights previous. Notes of sweet-sour toffee, fruit pulp and something of an oily rag mixed with a damp sponge, stored in my cupboard underneath the sink - all of which is good in this context. Furthermore there’s a little washing powder [also from said cupboard], and a slightly burnt char note, also good.
T: Lovely sour-sweet and a glossy edge with water added. Idiosyncratic grain thereon in.
    F: Long, lip smacking finish.
C: I like it, the nose especially.

    SMWS tasting notes:

With a dynamic and diverse deliverance of delightful fruit the whisky leapt from the glass with a warm embrace like being reacquainted with a long lost friend. Warm mango, plum skin, overripe banana, dried apricot and peeled mandarin all greeted us with open arms. We were introduced to their close friends like coconut, chamois leather, butter and pastry who, like us had mellowed with time. Together we mingled in deep and complex conversation, sipping coffee and discussing the likes of dark chocolate, Bourbon whisky, custard creams, fresh straw and dry mature oak before we finished with a warm spiciness and happy memories.

DRINKING TIP: To share with friends, regardless if they like whisky or not.
