Whisky Reviews for Glenrothes 1970 DT

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.21 points

  1. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

Totally undervalued here, never tried some kind of Glenrothes, blindly advised the salt on a slightly more aggressive Clynelish or even more a bit of a tropical Caol Ila (and the type of CI I love).
    • Nose
Sweet cheese first, then sweet apple, also some yellow and red gummy bears, sweet pear, fruit basket, Take 2 candies, melon, kiwi, mango, passion fruit, candy, ginger, eucalyptus, light oak, light malt, almonds, vanilla, toffee, a touch of salt and wax
    • Taste
Absolutely great blend of very sweet fruit and some salt and some acidity, like a Daiquiri with Punica, apples, juicy pears, mango, kiwi, melon, passion fruit, brown sugar, ginger, eucalyptus, gentle tannins, sweet and crunchy malt, mangles , more salt than in the nose, turmeric, light raisins, cedar
    • Finish
Cedar, eucalyptus, ginger, some salt, green apple and camphor, long

  2. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

The 41 years have not been idle. You definitely have to like woody flavors in order to find this whisky well. Otherwise, a great nose and a nice mouthfeel.
    • Nose
fat nose with orange peel, orange peel, a good portion of oak, nuts, a little vanilla, rather spicy from the basic character, old leather, almonds, light marzipan, incredibly multi-layered,
    • Taste
creamy, woody, slightly sweet, nutty, oaky, still sweet, slightly fruity, plums, roasted aromas, on the second sip really solid oak, before it opens again for other aromas
    • Finish
still oak, gently fading, still nut aromas, roasted and a touch plum must on the palate

  3. malthead-sven scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

definitely an old, rich whisky with a tough mouthfeel. In terms of price / performance, but he can not fully convince.
    • Nose
dried apple chips, wet leaves, waxy, then opens a fruit basket: sweet peaches, clementines, Haribo gold berries, then thistles, soft liquorice confectionery, initially some glue, woodruff, later some mocha and peach pits
    • Taste
a very dense texture as well as a heavy fruity note that goes on and on into the woody, peaches and peach kernels, thick, you can almost chew it
    • Finish
not explosive but very dignified, slightly tingling on the cheeks, long and sweet, subtle oak

  5. Malt Hans scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Stewed fruit aroma, honey, raisins, apple, ripe banana, vanilla, black currants, cinnamon and malt. Vanilla sweet taste, mint, pepper, ripe orange, banana, apple pie, walnuts and malt. Medium long, malty and fruity end.

  6. pilgrim77 scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Wonderful fruity nose showing plenty of signs of healthy ageing, with the sherry integrating beautifully and never dominating. The addition of water brought out a crime brûlée aspect that was very nice, as well as some faint traces of smoke. The palate doesn\\\\`t seem to match the nose, with some sour fruits making an appearance that weren\\\\`t present before. Medium length finish with the fruits and smoke returning. In summary...good at the start (bordering on a great nose) and finish, but got a bit lost somewhere along the way.
