The Caol Ila is immediately present, unmistakable CI notes but also the heavy liqueur-like Marsala are pushing in the air. Iodine and ham flatter my nose, fighting with the massive sweetness of ripe grapes

    • Nose
A heavy cloud of smoke comes towards me first. After that, some alcohol. A greasy sweetness joins it. Smells very pleasantly oily. After a while, the smoke goes into the glass, into the ashy wood stove rail. A bit of leather and asphalt steam. Followed by a slight saltiness. The sweetness becomes more and more evident. Even goes in the syrupy direction for me. A suitable spiciness and overripe lemon.
With an even longer standing time, there is a nice, berry aroma.
    • Taste
At first surprisingly mild in the mouth. Then the seasoning strikes. A bit of chilli heat and pleasantly oily. Got something from chili oil. The taste of the smoke is more in the dry, ashy direction. In addition, sweet vanilla and something like smoked honey. Again the overripe lemon. Yeast joins it. The taste of the berries is tart, unripe and biting. Some dry, woody bitterness opens up with it.
    • Finish
Medium to long. The sweet aromas disappear first. What stays longer is dry bitterness and ashy smoke.

Everything done right. Not the fat chocolate Marmala bomb I would have expected at first fill, but still a great flavor composition.
    • Nose

slightly spicy and ashen smoke, vanilla, banana, some chocolate, sourish fruit, almost like kiwi, strong roasted nuts, not really fat Marsala influence, but must not always be completely superimposed
    • Taste
      88 88
oily, extremely sweet and creamy, ashen and dry smoke, spicy, some cinnamon, sweet and fruity, but not really tangible which fruit, rarely had such a sweet smoker in the glass, I like, it's fun to drink it
    • Finish
      87 87
now comes also dark chocolate, the smoke is still very present, supple, warming, consistent

Nice thing, but rather something for those who like Caol Ila anyway much like me, young bomber with a slight rounding by the Marsala Cask, which is also good for him.
    • Nose
Very restrained, a rather sweet sweetness is spreading, such as cheap toffee sweets, light honey, almonds, marzipan, hints of brine in the background, lavender and rosemary, vanilla and some cinnamon, lime zest and some grapefruit, salted peanuts
    • Taste
Oily sweetness and brine, very Caol Ila, in extreme, concentrated form with the power of a 5 year old and the good% behind, salted peanuts everywhere, light herbal honey, thyme, oregano, rosemary, lavender, white pepper, nutmeg, light malt, Lime peel and grapefruit, a few charred oak briquettes behind
    • Finish
Very dry now, the cold ash goes a bit forward, along with malt, herbal honey and grapefruit, medium long, warming

  6. Kaltduscher scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

The Marsala barrel was good for the young Caol Ila. Nevertheless, he could have stayed in the barrel for a few more years.
    • Nose
Fruity sour. Kiwi's sour cherries. Gooseberries. Campino Sweet. Malt. Very subtle medical notes. A metallic youth can not hide the malt.
    • Taste
Again fruity-sour notes. Campino Sweet. Sugared ginger. Slightly metallic. Iodine. Some oak.
    • Finish
Surprisingly long. Once again, the fruity notes show. Peat smoke. Bitter and dry finish with a lot of oak flavor.

Marsala does not make Caol Ila tasty either. I just do not like that kind of smoke ...
    • Nose
Grainy smoke, typical of Caol Ila, the youth can not hide completely behind the smoke, the whole is fruity sweet play, which is certainly the Marsala barrel
    • Taste
Sweet and fruity, strawberries, then comes the Cao Ila smoke, again light youth, light oak
    • Finish
Sweet again with light smoke, the fruit notes stay a little bit
