The initial nose has a cake-shop (vanilla sponge, raspberry tarts, lemon drizzle cake, pineapple fancies) and a craft workshop (carpentry, lino cuts, new leather); eventually we get sunny meadows (including sage, feverfew and lovage). The palate has intense fruity sweetness – fruit toffees, Fruit pastilles, caramel apple granny cake, banana chips and sugar-coated fennel seeds. The reduced nose suggests a cricket pitch (grass, oiled wood, leather) where cricketers are sharing lemon drops and Polo mints. The reduced palate is sweet and tasty, with citric and herbal elements – really easy-drinking with pleasant lemon and ginger after-tingles. A stimulating dram, full of teasing interest.
DRINKING TIP: A wee hip flask at a cricket match?
