  1. LordBellamy scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    definitely no water necessary

Conclusion: Bamm, that's a great, older Springbank, a brilliant refill Sherry Cask, the only very subtle sulfur is only noticeable in the nose, but is completely gone in the taste and finish. In general, a very malt capable of traveling, the nose is dominated by rather slightly sweet walnut notes, while the taste is nice and dry (cocoa), and hardly comes without sweetness - 90 points

The mineral Springbank peat is here more restrained, typical of older Springbanks, some coal dust, in addition the very strong and dry Sherrynoten like dried dates, raisins, cocoa, leather and tobacco, also some salt one finds, later comes strong, caramelized walnuts and a gentle hint of sulfur added
    • Taste
      89 89
dry sherry notes with only light sweetness, leather, tobacco, some oak, raisins, neat cocoa and medium-bodied, mineral peat smoke, very oily mouthfeel
    • Finish
      90 90
long lasting, it only sounds very slow, again the dry sherry combination of cocoa, leather and tobacco, accompanied by a subtle smokiness of walnuts, beautiful oak without bitterness

A very mellow one, smooth, cooked white fruits, sweet, demerara sugar, some citric fragrants, long lasting.

A super nose, very typical (I like!). The reduction feels a little too much in the mouth, I think, for this kind of whisky that, in my opinion, is more charming with a few more horses under the hood. That said, it is a good Springbank (especially the nose), accessible to neophytes of this distillery. Damage for the price, very high, which strongly handicaps the official 18 years, also at 46%.
    • Nose
Very typical of the distillery, with calcareous smoke and mineral very present. But also fugacious dried aromatic herbs, and all the panoply that brings a Sherry cask: tobacco, raisin, walnut, orangette, sweet spices.
    • Taste
Sweet, fruity, and sweet. Almost too easy, too accessible for Springbank. Maybe because of the reduction? Sweet tobacco, candied yellow fruit, caramel, black grape syrup. Sweet spices are always there, too; just like the mineral smoke (but which is, here, more discreet).
    • Finish
Average. Spices sparkle on the palate. The tobacco is residual, while the smoke and the sweet fruit disappear.
