A remarkable Bowmore - probably one of the smokiest Bowmore - very well balanced considering the age. Very good!

    Water is NOT recommended.
    • Nose
Fresh, intense, a very smoky Bowmore, impressive notes of oak wood, hints of toffee, rather dry, I can detect some exotic fruits behind the smoky front such as mango and pineapples - really good!
    • Taste
Wow, so oily, thick and creamy - smooth, great smokiness, citrusy, lemony, woody notes, subtle sweetness, espresso - great!
    • Finish
Long and warm, still smoky and woody, zesty in the end

A wonderful Bowmore! Old and elegant, harmoniously tuned and incredibly delicious! While I start this conclusion, this mild yet fine-grained and smoky ocean breeze still rises from the empty nosing glass. This Bowmore convinces with its complexity and complexity. Although not intense fruit flavors dominate the taste but this was certainly my best Bowmore I ever had in the glass. The harmonious nose whets the appetite for the first sip, the salivation during the tasting demands the next sip. This Bowmore is addictive! Unfortunately, due to the high price, I have to withdraw immediately, but this dreamy aroma will shape me the next time! This bottling receives from me highly deserved 94 points!
    • Nose
Supple and wonderfully amber, the Bowmore rests in the glass. Small tough and oily drops dissolve in slow motion from the streaks adhering to the glass wall and take ages to reunite with the Bowmore in the glass. From afar, a light salty seaweed blows from the glass in my direction. Wow, the first nosing lifts a mild sea fragrance from the glass. A fine peat note and subtle smoke aromas rise from the sea, fruit flavors and old wood notes are added. The peaty smoke becomes more intense and covers fruity apple and banana flavors. More trophic fruits show up, sweet caramel and toffee mingle with the bowmoretypical nose. Still stick tough drops on the glass wall, the nose invites you to dream .... whisky heart, what do you want more?
    • Taste
The first sip. What a culinary delight! Old wood flavors mingle with fine and fruity peat, harmonious smoke and an incredible creaminess. Now the old wood exudes a salty and slightly peppery pungency, the alcohol shows up and grains of salt fall on dried logs. Spicy and creamy, citrus fruits suddenly rise from the wood tones. The salivation is massively stimulated and the palate eagerly awaits the next sip!
    • Finish
Spicy and subtly bitter woody aromas sound from the taste. The finish is dominated by a very harmonious peat-smoke note. Again and again, fruity apples and other fruits come into their own. The old wood still exudes a fine heat, the salivation does not want to end and calls for another sip. This Bowmore is definitely addictive. The perfect peat and smoke, the great tart and wooden aroma does not seem to end. A creamy feeling remains in the entire mouth area.

Geiler Malt and damn tasty! 95 earned points.
    • Nose
Even after 30 years surprisingly much smoke in the nose, but without the
to drown out fine notes of fruit and spice: light at the beginning
Lemon aromas, saltiness, then getting sweeter with nougat pralines, nut mix and buttery biscuits. A slight caffeine smell hovers in the background. tropical fruits: papaya, banana, mango. The longer you smell, the more the smoke goes into the background, but it is always present. For me the perfect smokiness!
    • Taste
Very oily. complex and very well balanced in terms of smoke, sweetness and bitterness. again citrus. Again the association of salt. Malt beer. Class spice aromas and smoke flavors explode through the nose. Great! The second sip reveals more sherry fruity notes.
    • Finish
Not too woody and too bitter, long remaining beautiful smoke. Slight in no way unpleasant pepperiness

Very, very nice Bowmore, which manages to be dry and spicy for a while and yet very rounded and well structured, is a bit too smooth or just right, depending on. ;)
    • Nose
Freshly grated cocoa beans, camphor, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, fresh coffee and liquorice, anise, cold ash, dark raisins, fennel, baked apple filled with spices, dark toffee
    • Taste
Raisins, light and dark, anise, blackberries and saffron, camphor, nutmeg and black pepper, despite the spice always very rounded and pleasant, herbal honey, sweet, clearly roasted malt
    • Finish
Very dry finish, roasted malt, toasted oak, anise, licorice, medium to long with the toasted notes

600€ is a lot of money and I could only afford a sample by myself as the full bottle is out of my range. A wonderful Bowmore which I rated 96 points the first time. I would now re-assess to 93 points which is still the top under all my Islay drams (together with the Laphroaig 21OA) but the Speysiders of 1973 (not comparable I agree) are drams that are more special than this one even when it is a great dram!
    • Nose
A great balanced sherry Islay nose. Looking for the fly in the ointment but fortunately it is a great nose :-)

The seasalt and smoke are surrounding the sherry cask influences dram. toffee, caramel and bacon can be recognized through the smokey dust.
    • Taste
The cask has been chosen on the perfect mix of maturity, distillery and cask character. The salt is there, as well as the sherry where it goes no more in dried fruits like apricots and oranges .
    • Finish
a great long and dry finish, Maybe a tick too dry!

I was lucky enough to try this dream drop. With this Bowmore everything fits up to the price actually everything, the nose is perfectly balanced, the refill sherry barrel covers the Brennereicharakter not too strong and brings an uncanny complexity with itself.
Who is on Islay and has the necessary change, will find here in my eyes almost perfect about 30 years old Bowmore who seeks his equal. The taste is really outstanding, the finish is long and wonderfully balanced. - A big movie theater - !!!

    A dream of a malt!
An interplay of flavors that one rarely has.
I'm a fan of old refill sherry whiskys.
That's exactly right! Brennereicharakter is not killed.

    Small drawback, the price.
In any case, too expensive, but you will probably have to make friends: /

After thirty years, the phenols have already degraded significantly and transformed into complex aromas and facets. The light lavender note may be a bit annoying, and a few other small details also prevent a higher rating. For the full review, go here: https://halbendrinks.de/2022/03/26/malts-of-islay/

Intense smokiness with a hint of citrus fruits, perfect balance, excellent

    Nose:
The smoke from older Bowmore always creates an association of smoldering flowers with a floral and sometimes somewhat perfumed smoke note. So also this Bowmore. The smoke is very strong and remains present when you breathe.
There are also nuts, tobacco leaves and raisins. Pimento. Leather, old furniture. Papaya and dark chocolate in the background.

    Mouth:
    Nice mouthfeel, rather oily.
Here too floral-heathery undertones with strong sherry and herbal notes. Dates, cinnamon, anise. Leather, slightly ashy. Licorice. Blackberry and black currant.

    Finish:
Medium-length, slightly berry, here spicy and slightly dry on the finish.

    91/100

    Conclusion:
Dangerously tasty, nice refillsherry profile. I like Bowmore a little more when the smoke is a bit more subdued, because I'm not the biggest fan of "Bowmore perfume smoke". therefore he does not get a higher score for me.

Nose: Beautiful, elegant and fruity nose, ripe citrus notes, very clean, marzipan, apricots, bananas, honey and well integrated smoke. Baklava, heather honey, lemon balm, slightly dusty but very balanced, complex and elegant. Then freshly sawn wood, nutty, gets better and more open with time. A really wonderful fragrance.

Mouth: Very tasty, sweet, elegant, again great ripe citrus notes, honey, quite phenolic, but barely with obvious smoke. Heather, fine maritime freshness, flowery, yes, but without the typical lavender tones for this time. Really honey honey, caramel, earthy, fine dryness, but always honey and ripe fruitiness.

Finish: Long, still honey and fruit, supplemented by phenol and elegant dryness.

Conclusion: Unfortunately, I do not remember who I got this sample from and who I can thank for it. So thank you to Unknown for this delicious malt, which proves what great malts Bowmore was able to produce in the 1980's.
