Eimverk distillery named their young malt after Flóki Vilgerðarson, the first Norseman settler who came to Iceland. Too young to be called 'whisky', this spirit spent about 1-2 years in virgin American oak casks, which makes it almost reminiscent of a bourbon. The aroma is minty fresh with hints of solvents, vanilla and newly assembled furniture (IKEA). Young, crisp and oily on the palate, there is a delightful herbal freshness that migrates into the mineral and resin-bitter finish. Flóki is definitely an unusual dram that unfortunately comes with a hefty price tag.

Well, a "Whisky" from Iceland, why not. These day basically everybody everywhere does it. To sum it up, this is not a whisky at all, not even close. The nose has a very strong toffee, caramel and slight vanila note, the taste ist very very alcoholic, a note of sweet honey but basically tastes like an aquavit or a grappa. In the end a strange aftertaste of liquorice lingers. Even for the "cheap" version ouside of Iceland it´s way to expensive.

You have to like that. I do not like it, even before it's not drinkable. Unfortunately, this musty-sweet mixture is inedible.
    • Nose
That's what I call "interesting". It smells very musty-moldy: prunes, bad fruit cake and old honey with a hint of walnut and raisins.
    • Taste
Already at the start of the whiskey is very bitter. There are notes that could also be sensed in the nose: moldy honey and musty raisin bread.
    • Finish
The finish is short. But there remains a nasty sweet-sticky aftertaste, such as honey sweets.
