Perfect example for a reliable handmade product. This is so old school. Best value for money. Look Diageo, this is Whisky...

  2. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Great whisky for ~ 40 €, quite intense, no Gaumenschmeichler, great for getting started smoke / salt / earth. ------------ Note: On the occasion of bottle change with the predecessor https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/5896 compared in parallel: At the beginning, although the old nasal something more open-hearted rueber (the bottle was also about half a year open), but after I can not distinguish 5-10 min in the glass and would sign my notes to the same again, therefore 1: 1 taken over.
    • Nose
first mild, ashy smoke (a bit salty, mineral, musty cellar, wet cardboard) ... then fruity-fresh (lemon, green apple, salt again), hazelnut cream, caramel and malt
    • Taste
mineral earthy, slightly salty and metallic (but not pungent / young), pepper; on the other side sweetness - nut nougat cream, caramel, milk chocolate; both well balanced
    • Finish
medium length, some milk chocolate, a lot of salt, pepper, some bitter smoke, charcoal

  3. Archer scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

With the 10yo, I am always surprised and delighted at how the entire characteristics of a distillery can be bundled so successfully in one bottling.
    • Nose
      90 90
Freshly cut tangerines, oranges, pineapples, red apples: an extremely tasty and inviting fruit basket, almost a mush in terms of the smell. Already has a creamy and viscous effect on the nose. The distillery character comes through clearly, this beautiful mineral note that is vaguely reminiscent of wet pebbles. Mild curry spices, turmeric, salt - the interplay of fruitiness and spiciness is what characterizes the nose of the 10yo so successfully.
    • Taste
      90 90
Creamy and pleasantly powerful attack. Salted tangerine slices, orange juice, pineapple pieces, apple sauce. The fruitiness is captured by curry, cardamom, pepper and the mineral note. Salt water on pebble. It becomes chocolaty over time, nougat and toffee appear, cocoa, milk coffee. But it doesn't lose its spicy fruitiness.
    • Finish
      89 89
Sounds like a long time with its fruits, spices, with its chocolate note appearing at the end. Becomes a little dry, one might even suspect a hint of smoke.

A wonderful example of what Springbank distillate can do when given the chance to shine. A light, easy going dram that has just enough complexity to keep me interested in what I'm sipping. Value (£38) : 9/10
    • Nose
Very fresh on the nose with plenty of wonderful fruity character. Fresh mandarins, pears, pinepples and starfruit. Then I get tinned peaches and baked red apples. Plenty of sugar candies and malted cereals. I'm thinking sweet vanilla pudding as well as it has a creamy character to it. Classic Springbank minerality with wet rocks alongside a light ocean breeze. There is peat here, rather earthy and mildly. smoky. A little bit of white pepper spice and cardamom along with some mint.
    • Taste
The mouthfeel. is creamy and viscous, very nice indeed. I get that amalgamation of fresh fruits once again, definitely more on the starfruit now followed by some fresh mandarin spritz. Even more vanilla pudding now, it is sweet but not overwhelmingly so. More cereal character. That salt and mineral note comes through once again with the faintest touch of peat smoke on the palate. White pepper increases in intensity but the spice is cut through by some toffee sweetness.
    • Finish
Medium in length here. The peat is most evident on the finish with more of a drying smoke intertwined with that white pepper and salt. That minerality builds in intensity like wet pebbles by a lake. As the peat dies down, I get more toffee coated pineapples and pears.

soft, sweet honey, (behind it it blows over from the cowshed)

nice fresh Waldmeister note - green jelly

    RATING: 87pts – |87 – 89 (B+) → Great| — Always nice to have a bottle of this.
    • Nose
      86 86
The nose is mineral, gently peated and salty with notes of metal, sweet malt, vanilla desert along with sea salt and baked apples.
    • Taste
      89 89
The taste is sweet and sour, pretty peaky with hints of smoky gooseberry, burnt melon, sea salt and mineral water.
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish is medium length and has a slight peatiness and mineraliness with notes of seaweeds, chocolate and oak.

This is one of my absolute favorite easy drinking whisky and the price to performance is absolutely ridiculous. They could charge 60 bucks for it and it would still be reasonable (let's hope they never do this)

Great for beginners of smoky whisky and people that want to be absolutely hooked to whisky for the foreseeable future.
    • Nose
      88 88
At first Salty and mineral, with minimal Peat smoke, but then it opens up to a very fruity nose.

Salt, medicine, alcohol, light ashy Peat, fresh cut grass, seaweed, pears, orange peels, apples, elderflower
    • Taste
      86 86
Very easy going and easy drinking well balanced and tastes older.

First Salty and lightly peaty and then again fruity floral notes like peaches and oranges and pears followed by sweet honey and then again it gets Salty and peaty
    • Finish
      86 86
Long and balanced finish, keeps my stomach quite warm for a while.

Wood notes and quite some spice, followed by seaweed and smoke and more oak influence. Then it gets quite sweet and turns very oaky in the end.

This note is specifically in relation to this batch of the Springbank 10 (batch 16/517, bottled on 20.12.2016), which was the first to carry the new design label. Insanely delicious whisky for a standard 10 year old bottling. I'm guessing they picked particularly special casks to create a batch to launch the new design with. In simplified tasting terms, this has a similar profile to the Springbank 9 year old local barley, but perhaps with just an extra layer of subtlety (partly due to the lower strength). All salty lemon, grease, earth and oils, weaved together in soft harmony.

A new version of SB 10 of good quality. No big fault if it is not a reduction too much felt. I enjoyed this whisky.
    • Nose
Fine peat, austere and mineral. There is plant freshness, lemon, mint, anise and some fruits. A little salt adds to the set for a nice sweet / salty.
    • Taste
Light attack, we feel the reduction (a slightly watery side).
The fine peat disappears little by little to give way to a more woody, chocolatey, spicy mouth (pepper ...). There are also some leather notes.
    • Finish
Average length on the wood, vanilla cream, sweet spices, salt and a fine vegetable peat present but in excess.

i’m not overly fond of this compared to the old releases of springbank 10 (black box and label) as it has lost what to me is the best quality of springbank, that funky oily aroma
    • Nose
orange marmalade, grass, light smoke, honey
    • Taste
orange marmalade, orange peel, citrus, sweet grains, marzipan
    • Finish
marzipan, orange peel, light smoke, sugars and oranges at the back

  13. whiskyinstitut scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

This quality for 45 €? Currently almost unequaled!
    • Nose
Sweet orange peel, salty and mineral, slightly greasy smoke, cotton candy, lime, sour candy, green apple
    • Taste
In principle, a typical salty and vigorous Springbank start, but a little sweeter and creamier, the juice oranges are fully there, slightly dry on the cheek
    • Finish
Everything plays together, sweet, orangy, strong, slightly oaky, becoming increasingly mineral

  14. dram-drinker scored this whisky 92 points Photo Moderator

This is certainly one of the fruitiest regular 10yo bottlings. Just hints of leather, smoke and wood which is fantastic!
    • Nose
Fresh, fruity, pineapples, pears, mango, whiffs of leather and smoke, also some creme brulee, hints of citrus fruits, honey dew, wax polish - very good
    • Taste
Very oily and creamy, now more fine citrus and wood notes, oranges, lemons, and more exotic fruits, subtle sweetness - excellent
    • Finish
Medium long, fruity, warm - gets more punchy and mineral in the end - great

A good Springbank, and not even to say that it is completely easier than a 15-year-old.
For a 10-year-old - a worthy example, perhaps one of the best 10-year regulars.
    N:21 T:22 F:21 B:21
    • Nose
      Oh yeah! It's Springbank!
Light smoke, orange peel, but everything is much simpler and rougher than, for example, in the neighboring 15-year-old version, cereal tones, sharp, a little thinner, blooming cherry orchard.
After breathing, it opens up and the sharpness fades away.
    • Taste
Orange, cherry pit, burnt grass, orange peel, acidity of lemon juice, lots of tannins, candy, ginger.
Breathing becomes smoother, sweeter, but filled with barrel wood. Sweetness 8 out of 10. It becomes richer, tannins and astringent astringency and bitterness of the cherry pit appear. But, nevertheless, sharpness and youth makes itself felt.
    • Finish
      Tannins, astringent, warming

When I first bought this bottle, I was wondering why the price of this 10 year old was 2x the price of other 10 year old bottle from other distilleries. Now I know the reason... Aside from being more scarce, this bottle taste like an 18 year old (and better than many 18 year old whiskies). Also, all Campbeltown whiskies I had tasted are superior. If the price will be lowered for a little bit, I will stock up SB10, SB12 CS and SB15 as my daily dram.
    • Nose
      90 90
Complex. A layer of light peaty smoke is present. But it does not hide the fruitiness, sweetness, and the earthy smell. To be more precise: Some vanilla, mint, orange, a little malty, a little funky, a little oaky. Also, tiny bit of medicine note and caramel note.

It smells like an 18 year old whisky rather than a 10 year old.

      Edit: Mossy, toffee notes.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweetness and the spiciness come at the same time. Oaky, dark fruity, Licorice. In general, the taste is well-rounded and intense.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium length with oaky. Dried fruit, nutty, some sweetness, vanilla, chocolate, a little bit malty.

Maybe this sample has been sitting out for too long, or maybe my expectations for it were too high? I didn't get any surprises...
It's just a normal peated whisky to me.
The balance is really good, but the type of aroma is not particularly appealing.
Nor are there any particularly prominent features worth writing about.
At his current exaggerated price in the market, I have no reason to choose it.
The total taste is 84 points, and the price is deducted 2 points, for a total of 82 points.

    S 7
Equally prominent fruity & spicy experience. Strong spicy kick all the way from palate to finish, but still managed to maintain a smooth mouthfeel.

    N 25
Fruity, orchard fruit - apple, orange
Quite oily, somehow masking other flavours at first, gradually became more balanced
    Honey
Warm spice poking here and there
    Subtle coastal note

    P 25
Starting with a strong punch of spice
    Fruity
    Touch of salt
    Toasted oak
More honey & fruity when left to breathe

    F 23
    Mid-short finish
    Chilli spice lingering
    Malty
    Mild honey
    Hint of smoke

The below notes are the Springbank 10 bottled in October 2020. It is clear from opening the bottle that you’re smelling something rather special. Even with the inflated prices of 45 pounds a bottle, it’s still good value. I prefer the nose over the palate / finish because of its distinct fresh, tart fruitiness. So lovely.

I have a 2021 bottle as well, I hope to find the sour fruit there as well.
    • Nose
      89 89
Fresh, fruity nose with plenty of dunnage funk. Unique pristine fruit notes on the NZ sauvignon blanc side (crystal clear gooseberry and kiwi) that suggest a white wine cask in the mix. The pleasant sourness of the nose is also a sign, lemon, orange, clove for spice, plenty of honey. Herbs - thyme and lavender. Yellow tropical fruit as well with a sweet and fresh pineapple. Apple crumble with a hint of vanilla. An evergreen medicinal tinge to everything. With the fruit and soft peat, reminds me of a bourbon barrel Bowmore.
    • Taste
      87 87
Sweeter than the nose, less sour and fresh. Tongue-coating honey, herbal sweetness of thyme. Very fruity, this time with pineapple and a distinct passion fruit note, super nice. Spicy clove and menthol. Lemon verbena and mandarins.
    • Finish
      85 85
The peat lingers amidst fresh fruits - sauvignon blanc notes again with fresh kiwi and gooseberry. A little bit of apple and wild thyme. Quite resinous, I get some fir needle. Warming, spicy, cozy.

Surprisingly comprehensive, balanced, full and arranged whisky for this age (10 YO) and strength (46%). We can find a lot in it - starting with more and less ripe fruit, through caramel, honey, vanilla, aromas of salt, spices, and ending with traces of smoke. It changes practically every time you attach it to your nose and sip it.

  28. Tangtang_WhiskyYoda scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

very nice balanced malt. I like it.
    • Nose
smoky, slightly ashy, somewhat earthy, light fruits, then becoming a bit sweet, citrus fruits and slightly nuts, later a slightly salty note
    • Taste
Salty, sour fruit notes, then pepper, later it becomes slightly sweet and some chocolate comes through as well as the nuts again, but this rather in the background. The slightly earthy note from the nose is also present all the time
    • Finish
Medium-long, intense chocolate notes at the beginning, then transitioning into the slightly sour, bitter salty notes. Here the smoke is only slightly in the background

[August 2021 batch] Leather, books, barley sugar, pear, stewed apple, barbecued pineapple, orange, touch of peat, earth, gunpowder, fennel, chocolate, starfruit. For me, a standard that is always fun and never boring. I even like it better than older Springbank bottlings.
    • Nose
I have the light smoke, the orange peel, fresh, herbal, slightly maritime and a little sooty. I don't have any cheese, but it smells like I expected, I'll be home almost immediately.
    • Taste
Surprisingly peaty in the mouth, have they mixed in a little more over the years? It's been a couple of years. I haven't had the current design like this one yet. Otherwise nice herbaceous and the orange peel notes are also there.

My first Campbeltown malt, actually different, yet not fully rewarding. A bit overwhelming alcohol nose, a tasty herbal palate and slightly bitter aftertaste. In the end, it's not bad at all, just not exactly my taste.

  40. Stanzeflasche scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

At the beginning, a certain freshness. Then the nose sets in, vanilla, lime, orange blossom. And of course that smell of hay, of a stable, but it's so clear, so smooth, that it goes very well, I would even say that there is something pastry, gourmet in it, like speculoos cream , and splinters of sponge cake. Behind, an ounce of sherry, with dried banana, currants, brown sugar. A little iodine and peat. Egg yolk. Dry land, a bright sunny day.
On the palate, vanilla and lime come back knocking on the door, quite oriental spices, a hint of raspberry, coarse salt, a little citrus at the end, exotic fruits perhaps. Very good finish, oily and minty, long and vegetal, green tea, in retro-olfaction the spices found in Indian restaurants. Pistachios, sweet olives. I really like.

A pure wonder! Authentic and somewhat demanding, the Springbank 10 will delight enthusiasts looking for a malted delorean capable of bringing back those who taste it in austere but noble times. This is a rustic Whisky far from the sweet fashion that dominates the market, that of the "smooth" that we see blooming on many labels.

Im not much into sherry tones, but they are not that present in Springbank. Still... Kilkerran 12 is more interesting and cheaper. Its the better Campbeltown right now.
    • Nose
      peat, salt
    • Taste
Bourbon sweetness, peat, citrusy, salty, underline sherry tones. All in all Talisker 10 like with some added fruits.
    • Finish
      tropical fruits, salt

Bottled June 2018. Just great whisky! Seriously impressed. Tons of complexity with different notes you can pick and pull with each sitting. Took these notes last night but I'm sure there are lots I'm missing. Arguably the best in the core lineup and beats out numerous Springbank single casks I've tried.⁣
    • Nose
Amazing nose! Fukkkkkin bomb! Musty damp cellar, salty maritime notes i.e. seaweed, ocean mist, seashells, etc. Sooty with minerality. Freshly baked sweet bread. Tons of background fruitiness, citrus fruits, tropical fruits…
    • Taste
Waxy, oily, creamy mouthfeel. Huge coastal notes with some sweet biscuits. Seawater, seaweed, mineral notes, earthy, sooty, faint smoke. Citrus fruits.⁣
    • Finish
Excellent length for the ABV. Salty, earthy, lovely spicy herbs. I love it.⁣

This is only 10 years old stuff, but I can not find its rival in other brand's 12/15/18 standard version, except for Macallan and Bowmore. This is nice, complicated and beautiful balanced masterpiece and I can say something with this price range could represent whisky. Handmade do mean something. Fantastic.

Absolutely the best on the market in term of quality/price, wonderful and beautiful product. amazing whisky, a peat one with a very grass and fruity component , exotic fruit, mango, and orange, peach..with water in the finish comes out the peat and the costal taste, paraffin and smoky edges and its wonderful contrast. Great for a 10 year non-CS, but I still think their best bang for the buck is the 15 year or 12 year CS.
    • Nose
Pears, papayas, vanilla custard, soot, oyster brine.  As strange as it may sound, it is sweet and dry at the same time.
    • Taste
Somewhat waxy, quite lemony, and then soot and oyster brine again, than some bitter tannins. Less fruity and sweet than the nose.
    • Finish
Medium-short, black pepper, salt, and minerals.

Springbank 10 yo (46%, OB, 2016)  Not everyone agrees with the new livery, but to me it shouts ‘we don’t care about the outside, it’s what’s inside the bottle that counts’. Something only self-confident brands can do, while I believe there aren’t that many of them in whiskydom. But onto this wee tenner, while keeping in mind that I had just adored its predecessor last year (WF 91). Colour: gold. Nose: no, really, it’s becoming boring. Such a perfect dry, almost top-manzanilla-like profile, with everything sooty, inky, tarry, mineral, saline… Even its fermentary side is a hit, when that can be totally disastrous elsewhere. And look, plasticine, that can be seen as a flaw elsewhere, but not here, because of the way it mingles with the other aromas. Boring boring Springbank… Mouth: I’m very upset now. I was hoping for some tiny flaws, something shaky, something that would keep the conversation going, something controversial… But this palate is disappointingly immaculate, deplorably perfect, and lamentably satisfying. Tarry lemon juice, waxy minerals, and sooty herbs. You know, I’m feeling I’m about to lose my temper… Finish: I’ve just decided to go on strike. After all, Alsatians are also French. Comments: I said no. SGP:452 – 92 points (but that’s my very last warning).

Nose: Orchard fruit (pear) with a hint of peat, vanilla and malt.

Palate: Malt, oak, spice, nutmeg and cinnamon, vanilla essence.

Finish: Sweet, with a lingering salty tingle.
