Whisky Reviews for Ledaig 2005 SMS

12 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.12 points

  1. Alex Fridays scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

The colour is amber. The nose starts with light fruit rottenness, and goes with raisin, dried fruits, light peated smoke, dust, sweet white fruits and apple jam notes. The palate is peaty, spicy, dry and dusty with dried fruits notes. The finish is long with notes of spices, peated smoke, oak and dried fruits. As usual, Ledaig shows a perfect result! It has very good balance between sweetness and peatness.

Still quite common in the nose, an explosion on the palate.

    • Nose
Medicinal smoke with a bit of ethereal freshness. Right alcoholic. Hay and cereals. No trace of sherry.
    • Taste
Strong start with now clear Sherrynoten. Alcoholic.
    • Finish
      Long, sweet and alcoholic.

Quite complex. Sherry and chocolate nuts.
    • Nose
Bittersweet black treacle, dried prunes and raisins, spun sugar and morello cherries in syrup, dark chocolate, burnt fruit cake,molasses-this has Sherried island dram written all over it.
    • Taste
Rich and soft, dark died fruits, but also spicy notes. Like cinnamon pepper, baking spices. Underlaying smokiness.
    • Finish
      Dry and smoky.

  9. thijs100 scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Big and bold, not for the fainthearted. It strikes a good balance between the peaty Ledaig-spirit and the influence from the sherry butt.
    • Nose
Sherry influence aside, this is recognizable Ledaig spirit. The fresh peat and the sauerkraut. Plenty of vanilla too. And it works great with the sherry, which is intertwined and balanced rather than dominant. Cherries, blackcurrant jam and cigar tobacco, as well as oranges.
    • Taste
Sweet brown sugar, candied cherries and barbecue smoke, as well as soot, tar and plenty of peat. A pinch of pepper and a whiff of burnt matches.
    • Finish
Big on the peat smoke, with a sweet sherry touch. Long.
