Whisky Reviews for Speyside Distillery 1991 WIN

- A bit of a disappointing dram for me. The alcohol is very dominant on both the nose and the pallate. There's also some unpleasent bitterness. The sherry influence is there, but it's being dominated by the high ABV. There are some typical Speyside fruity flavors in the background, but not enough to shine through. Bringing down the ABV with a spash of water leaves a milder but rather bland whisky. And the bitterness that bothered me before is still there too. I suppose that at this age and percentage it's safe to say the cask wasn't particularly active. I've also read this was the first year Spey was in operation, so there isn't much distillery character in there eiter. Which leaves me with a whisky that is either too dominated by alcohol or too bland and bitter. A lot of fruity elements (both fresh and dried) I usually like are there in the background, but I just can't seem to get them to shine.
- a good serry bottle, but a bit too heavy with a lot of earthy influence
- Leafy sherried speysider, totally forgettable.
