Parallel tasting with Springbank 12 CS Batch 14, 54.2%. No question, a spring bank. Even a well-made, you can see from the somewhat artificial citrus note in the nose. If you like, you can also pay for the 109, - (issue price). But you do not necessarily, the recurrent 12 CS is at least equivalent.
    • Nose
You have to give him some time in the glass. After some waiting time, during which part of the slightly stinging alcohol has disappeared, a strong citrus note of non-natural origin (toilet duck) appears. In addition, the nose is mineral, maritime, slightly salted. Honey makes for a more natural sweetness after a while.
    • Taste
Even when starting on the tongue, the citrus note from the nose can be found again. Here, however, it could also come from a lemon and not from a cleaning agent. Also the maritime touch from the nose comes here again, the Malt acts, despite its 53.1%, fresh, airy, light. The alcohol is very nicely involved. Grated almonds and walnuts are coming, also oak is to be guessed. The malt becomes drier.
    • Finish
Long and dry, with citrus, almonds and slightly bitter herbs.

More barrel influence with oak and spice being represented here, compared to the later release.
    • Nose
      86 86
Good maturating, balance and more rounded with fresh fruits, some green apples and subtle hints of smoke lingering in the background. The alcohol comes and goes.
    • Taste
      87 87
Vanilla Ice Cream, unripe pear, yeast, sugar, oaky and slightly spicy.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium long with tanning oak and pepper.

It ’s really great. To tell the truth, the proportion of different flavors in a cocktail can be said to be determined by people, but some combinations of flavors are beyond the imagination of delicious or difficult to drink. The whisky flavor combination depends to some extent on luck , And then still understand the beauty of it only by experiencing it firsthand.
    • Nose
The overwhelming smell of malt, biscuits, peat and the like were completely suppressed. Milk and oil and damn cucumbers can also be said to be green apples.
    • Taste
The Genting characteristics that I understand, the malt, ore, and lipid are particularly balanced, a little salty, hay, and smoke.
    • Finish
For a long time, the malt soaked in fat still has a small amount of salt.

  4. sagara-kun scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Pretty simple and very focused on cereals.
    • Nose
Very cereal nose, barley, Kellogg's, biscuit.
A base of citrus, lemon, lime.
      A little margarita. Strawberry, butter.
    • Taste
In the mouth it's a little more lively. Lemon, lemon, lemon. Cereals. Brown sugar.
      Fresh mint, pepper, fresh grass.
      Yeast. Saline.
    • Finish
      Final on citrus fruits, yeast.

Another substantial craft presentation by Springbank but compared with the 16y LB this one lacks of some age. The alcohol is a bit dominant on the nose but keeps vanishing with time in the glass. A few more years would have made this fellow a bit rounder.Concerning price/performance ratio: 7/10
    • Nose
Green apple, grass, lemon, hints of smoke, hints of salted fudge, minerals, some "farming Springbank" in the back, cookie dough.
    • Taste
Springbank farming (some cow dung), some smoke, lemon, minerals, salt, honey, some spices.
    • Finish
Medium. Oak, smoke and Springbank farm.

  6. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Ok for drinking. Overal a bit young and lax complexity and I don't like the dry finish. Purchased sample.
    • Nose
Citrus, soft briny notes, pepper, some smoke, marshmallows, herbs and some nuts - walnuts.
    • Taste
Citrus, pepper, briny - salt, some wax, honey and later a fresh fruity note - apple.
    • Finish
Medium drying with pepper, vanilla and a touch of smoke.

Tasted at the Ardshiel Hotel in Campbeltown.

My first experience of Local Barley - memorable, if not entirely straightforward.
    • Nose
      88 88
Immediately recognisable as SB - briny edge, some lanolin and dandelion. Slight suggestion of cigarette smoke.
    • Taste
      91 91
An explosion of unusual flavours, I get curry leaves and onion up front. Huge savouriness, gorse flowers. There's a touch of sulphur, but it's an asset here. Water adds distinct lemon notes.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium-long, sweetens slightly, charcoal and wax.
