Whisky Reviews for Paul John 2009 MoS

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.13 points

  1. JoshNRW scored this whisky 87 points Expert Junior

Before that unfortunately had a 26 year old Bunnahabhain 46% Hogshead - it will be a bit difficult for Paul John. But he convinces anyway.
    • Nose
Looks a bit clumsy with its intensity, but the alcohol, at 60%, does not sting too much in Glencairn and even in the Blenders glass. Very, very much and intense bourbon, alcohol well integrated, really round, but unfortunately not much more than bourbon, syrup and sweetness. Still a nice made but monotonous part.
    • Taste
Water is good for him because it adds a little more spice. Still very round for the age and the percentages.

      with water: fruity
    • Taste
      soft on the palate
      Oak, cardboard, sweet, fruit
with water: silky on the palate

  3. malthead-1984 scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Well, that is really different but how? Could not be a Scot at all, so I'll bet on a 4-6 year old or Nas Indian with 46% -48%.
    • Nose
The first impression was young, sparkling and full of vanilla and malt, but this is quickly gone, it remains the strong malty main note but it comes to distinct berry notes, as of a refill sherry. it looks a bit upset and not yet harmonious but the aroma has something. The alcohol carries the aromas nicely into the nose and brings with it a slight tingling sensation. Some heath with honey suggests
    • Taste
at first it reminds me of salty herring, quite thin but with a salty note it runs on the tongue, then it gets almost watery until a nutty and at the same time metallic note comes through, there is a slight peppery tingling on the tongue. Slightly astringent. and mild to moderate body.
    • Finish
: In the finish, the berry flavors come back and mix with the nuts to a fruit slices, somehow remains an indefinable slightly spicy taste in the mouth.
