- The Westport is a nice Bourbon nut with a heavy finish. He likes me better with water.

- From the northern Highlands comes this 17-year-old Westport. Of course that means no distillery there, as most of you know. Westport is the trade name for barrels from the Glenmorangie Distillery, which was allegedly added to a small amount of another whiskey. So the contents of the barrel can no longer be bottled as Glenmorangie Single Malt.
This bottling matured for 17 years in a fresh bourbon barrel and has developed so well that exceptionally, Alba Import left it with a full cask strength of 57.3% vol. A voluminous drop that is characterized by intense aromas of caramel fudge, fruit compote and honey cake with spicy undertones.
- While its nose stays quite subdued and a bit blocked because of the alcoholic note, this Westport really delivers on the tongue. I love its fruity and intense progression with water. This is definitely better and much more typical Northern Highland style than what Glenmorangie currently has to offer in this price range.
Floral and fruity with a typical vanilla backbone. Without water rather spirity, but with water there are granny smith apples (with apple seeds and all), vanilla pods, geranium, lemon oil, brioche, sultanas and candied ginger.
Neat this malt tastes very strong and sour, but underneath there is a delicate complexity waiting for being discovered. With water (it takes a few drops as well as plenty of water, don't be afraid to experiment) it becomes creamy and opens up with passion fruit, cherimoya, ripe apples, creamy lemon sherbet and soft bittersweet hop-py undertones. This is delicious!
