Whisky Reviews for Ledaig 1973 CA

All in all a delicious dram, certainly nothing out of the ordinary. Not the typical Ledaig for me either, because I couldn't find any smoked bacon notes here at all. In my opinion, this whisky does not need water. But of course everyone can decide for themselves.

First of all there is a nice fresh note that is accompanied by a light note of cinnamon. In the background there is also something that I can not define, somehow musty but not in a negative sense.
    • Taste

In the mouth, a light layer of ash paired with a beautiful honey sweetness spreads immediately. The alcohol is well integrated for me, nothing bites.
    • Finish
      87 87
The finish is medium long. The ash remains for a very long time, whereas the sweetness disappears more and more.

Water is needed, otherwise this is a brutal whisky that is not for the light-hearted. Still then, it's not easy.
    • Nose
Initially: rather feisty, with engine oil, gasoline, and rubber. It settles into a more straightforward peaty nose with slight saline elements (kippers), putty/bog, and charcoal smoke. Next to that, it's both green (eucalyptus) and fizzy (fanta), later turning into more normal fruit as in orange marmelade and lemon.
    • Taste
A rollercoaster. It's (very) hot on pepper, but also rather thick and oily, with some earthy roots that remind of cough syrup, and menthol that does the same. There is peat, polished furniture.
    • Finish
Lingering, on charcoal ash and smoke, Italian licorice, gentian and pepper. The herbal and fruity side is almost entirely gone.
