The youth reveals itself on the palate and finish, but you’re getting a lot for your money here. Really well done.

Sweet, dry, woody, fruity. Soft for the high abv and young age. The wood’s quite elegant - reminds me quite a bit of a quality cognac I had recently. There’s an earthy quality to the oak, along wish facets of greenness. Plenty of dried orchard fruits (apricots), vanilla, tonka bean, bitter orange marmalade. Water reveals floral honey.

Pleasant, sweet, the oak is prominent but not overbearing. Good mouthfeel. The nose translates to the palate, with dried fruits, vanilla, caramel, orange jam. However, the greenness of the oak expresses itself more, with green herbs and spices.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium-long, dominates by the oak spice, with accents of fresh orchard fruit and honey. Nice.

101 turkeys never translate in my bar. I drink this bourbon periodically and recommend it to others. Excellent value for money. This is a very simple and understandable whiskey for every day, bottled at the right strength. I think good bourbons should be 50% abv or higher.
    • Nose
Intense, caramel filled with hints of fresh baked goods sprinkled with powdered sugar, lollipops and broken bricks in the background.
    • Taste
A bit sharp, with tones of burnt sugar, milk chocolate, cocoa and citrus sourness.
    • Finish
Short-lived, burning, caramel, citrus, with a strong influence of oak and nutty bitterness, with a thin mineral trail.

    Wild Turkey 101, 50.5%.

50ml at home, Aug 2021, from a freshly opened bottle.

The pack copy says this is made with whiskies "up to 6 to 8 years old”…which means…what, exactly? Is there any 8 year old whiskey in this? How much is 3 years old? We don’t know.

Despite the dark appearance in the bottle, it's fairly pale in the glass – at least for a bourbon, that is.

Aroma is spiritous up front, hot and gluey, barrel char, touch of apple. Not the best nose.

Taste is spice-led. It certainly has a rough edge and cannot be described as 'smooth' - it's quite peppery and a little dry and bitter, the alcohol shows up and it doesn't have many of the 'sweet' impressions that many bourbons possess - just a touch of toffee and peanut brittle behind the booze, again the finish has some barrel char.

This is decent though - there's categorically nothing wrong with this and you can't complain too much at £26 a bottle for a bourbon bottled at what I consider to be ‘proper’ bourbon strength. You can pay £10-15 more and get something a lot better, and you can pay £100 more and get something a lot worse. That’s bourbon for you. 3.35/80

The kickin' chicken needs no further introduction, so let's get on with it. Matured for 6-8 years in heavily charred American oak barrels, the fiery nose offers no surprises. Vanilla cream, toffee and brown sugar are interwoven with cinnamon, tobacco and hints of acetone. Classic bourbon notes with a spicy punch of rye characterize the palate, rounded off by chamomile, nutmeg and orange jam. Re-emerging sweetness, ginger and a touch of mint linger in the wood-driven finish. If you don't mind the occasional bite, then Wild Turkey 101 is certainly a buy.

    Wild Turkey 101 50.5% ABV (Bottled 2020):

Gobble Gobble! This went down super fast as I found it to be an easy sipper. Good stuff but I think I prefer the aggressive burst of flavor from barrel proof bourbons on the palate. This is lacking length in the finish as well but it's hard to imagine a better value available in bourbon.

    Score: 82/100
    • Nose
Mostly vanilla and butterscotch. There is a slightly musty component along with some secondary fruity elements.
    • Taste
Predominant flavor of toffee/butterscotch followed by spicy notes of cinnamon, black pepper, and toasted oak. There is a really nice interplay between rich sweetness and spice.
    • Finish
Shortish length with lingering spicy toffee sweetness.

    Summer whiskey 2019.
Beautifully spicy Kentucky Bourbon, which also brings its own note when mixed with cola.
I would do it again: D

Rectilinear, basic, with the aroma of solvent, dried apricots, caramel and butter, the taste is dense, slightly sour, with notes of cinnamon, milk chocolate and nuts, tart finish, with nuances of wood, nuts and chocolate.
Very sensible bourbon in the ratio of price / quality. Intelligent fortress, organoleptic level. You can take it and drink it safely, once again the basic inexpensive bourbon is very surprising.
