The first nose bites a bit cool in the nose, which is however after a few minutes. Then an oily torrent of sweet flavors comes through. Light mint, toffee / caramel & honey with a hint of smoke. Then the nose gets heavier and it gets malty. Very nice: one means to smell island air. There is definitely a maritime touch in the nose. Interesting. Not super-complex, but also anything but one-dimensional.
In the mouth, I immediately notice that with> 56% in itself quite properly represented alcohol feels very gentle and is excellently involved. There is nothing burning or stinging. I recognize the toffee note in the mouth again and now I also perceive a sweet, oily syrup. The whole thing is sometimes much nuttier than the nose has suggested, but the malt scent of just continues seamlessly. Nice. Recognition vs. Nose, but quite right (good) different.
The finish is for me at most to be rated as medium, even if the last aftertaste resonates quite a long time. Now the smell of smoke comes back, almost as if he had just left the room to let me taste his other flavor comrades, before he comes in again and beckons again friendly, so I do not forget him. Very subtle and well-mannered, this boy. Next to him, I now perceive fruity notes. Apples and apricots come to my mind. In the first moment, the finish is a little bit sprightly, but it settles down quickly. The aftertaste gets better with time.
Conclusion: a beautiful, honest malt with some facets, who does not try too hard to be something he is not. Pleasantly varied, he invites me to give him more time again. Will definitely deal with the whisky again. There is still a lot to discover. First rating: 86/100
