Maltman Bunnahabhain 2004/2017 with 56.2% ABV and the Cask number # 3573 When pouring is my first thought: Bubble Tea !? But there are many bubbles in my glass! These are quickly fizzled and the malt lies down in his rich, oily gold in the glass and winks at me. Yes, my little one, you're due right now.
The first nose bites a bit cool in the nose, which is however after a few minutes. Then an oily torrent of sweet flavors comes through. Light mint, toffee / caramel & honey with a hint of smoke. Then the nose gets heavier and it gets malty. Very nice: one means to smell island air. There is definitely a maritime touch in the nose. Interesting. Not super-complex, but also anything but one-dimensional.
In the mouth, I immediately notice that with> 56% in itself quite properly represented alcohol feels very gentle and is excellently involved. There is nothing burning or stinging. I recognize the toffee note in the mouth again and now I also perceive a sweet, oily syrup. The whole thing is sometimes much nuttier than the nose has suggested, but the malt scent of just continues seamlessly. Nice. Recognition vs. Nose, but quite right (good) different.
The finish is for me at most to be rated as medium, even if the last aftertaste resonates quite a long time. Now the smell of smoke comes back, almost as if he had just left the room to let me taste his other flavor comrades, before he comes in again and beckons again friendly, so I do not forget him. Very subtle and well-mannered, this boy. Next to him, I now perceive fruity notes. Apples and apricots come to my mind. In the first moment, the finish is a little bit sprightly, but it settles down quickly. The aftertaste gets better with time.
Conclusion: a beautiful, honest malt with some facets, who does not try too hard to be something he is not. Pleasantly varied, he invites me to give him more time again. Will definitely deal with the whisky again. There is still a lot to discover. First rating: 86/100

    • Nose
I let it stand for a long time, but even after 45 minutes the alcohol is still very present. Lots of alcohol, a little bit of vanilla and maybe still rotten lemon that resonates. Nevertheless, it looks very thin.
    • Taste
In the mouth I find a lot more vanilla than in the nose, quite nice at the beginning. When undiluted, the alcohol presses too much; if it is reduced to an estimated 50%, it will be fine. Even now the alcohol is still present and squeezes noticeably, but in a way that I like. So the alcohol supports, hardly disturbs.
    • Finish
The outlet is then again on the dark side. It has been around for a while, but is more reminiscent of re-refill, thin and the tannins come into play.

Yes, you have the wet rubber glove, but the rest is just grainy-musty-sweet.
This Bunna is my weakest so far, because I can not talk as a fan of this still nothing nice! But so different are the tastes!

Wonderfully matured, this 12-year-old Bunnahabhain is made from a Bourbon cask. Salty sea air on the nose, paired with sweet, malty notes that continue on the palate and, together with plenty of luscious honey, syrup, toffee, walnut and apple strudel, turn into a round taste experience with a small peat scent on the finish.
