Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1995 Wy

[March, 2017]  This is the typical modern Clynelish profile to its extreme:  If you like it you will sip more than one dram an evening - if not, do not go for it.  I bought a bottle for 81 Euro in March, 2017.It is quite meaty (grilled bacon stripes over baked pineapples spiced up with a shot of lime juice and some white pepper) and imbedded in a sweet mouth-watering and nicely balanced wooden structure.  There are some strange, unusual off-notes too but they are not unpleasant (to me).  One to chew for minutes before swallowing. Given its price this is a clear buy for anyone who likes this profile.

The nose reminds me a bit of Talisker whisky's profile. Pepper, bit salty but also some citrus. Interesting nose, makes me curious about the rest of the whisky.

A lot of ripe fruit, greasy, sweet, vanilla influences, little salty. The taste is different than the nose makes you believe. I should have had a bit more punch.

Pretty long, somewhat dry, seems to be a bit saltier in the end.

Pleasant whisky, the distillery character is well felt, but Biltong is a little exaggerated. :)
    • Nose
Flowers, honey, citruses, pineapple and waxy apple. Spices, especially salt and pepper.
    • Taste
Soft, oily. Citruses, sweet fruits, salt and pepper. Oak and green tea.
    • Finish
      Medium length, fruity.

Not bad after almost two decades.
    • Nose
Plenty of distillery character.Nicely rounded with pineapple chunks, orange zest and some scented candle. That citric element continues with water: old lime and grapefruit hulls, then distant wax.
    • Taste
Soft and quite sweet with good waxy feel. The candle has been snuffed and there is floral element, alongside hits of citrus and sweeter soft fruits. Big estery notes.
    • Finish
Plenty of pineapple again. Middle long  aftertaste.
