    Ruben (whiskynotes.be) gave it 90/100

Nose: quite a rich, rounded nose, with all the expected plum juice, raisins and figs but also fresher notes of cherries and raspberries. Hints of espresso and pipe tobacco. Cinnamon and furniture polish. A little tiger balm. Oranges with clove. Cognac. Aniseed. A slightly acetic hint of Balsamico. Mouth: hot, showing the same Balsamico character and a slight astringency. Blackberries and prunes, cinnamon bark. Nutmeg. Morello cherries. Then more towards herbs, earthy notes, charred oak and walnuts. Finish: very long. The dryness in the very end (often Kavalan’s Achilles heel) is well within limits. Tobacco, chocolate dessert and cough syrup.

I'm excited about this massive and very complex sherry monster. Here, Kavalan shows how to use good barrels in conjunction with the extremely rapid maturation (due to the tropical climate) in a short time to produce an intense, complex and at the same time not overloaded whisky. Through the combination of sweet and fruity sherry, chocolate oak and the resinous spice, the malt has completely convinced me and made curious for more cavalans.
    • Nose
At the beginning, a very intense, old-looking, sweet and fruity sherry note dominates (juicy red grapes, overripe oranges, ripe blueberries), which is supported by a strong but not bitter oak (dark chocolate). After a few minutes, a complex and sweet range of chocolate aromas build up (dark chocolate ice cream, very chocolaty coffee, dark chocolate sauce). In addition, there are pleasant wax and rubber band flavors, strawberry chewing gum, some fresh leather, tobacco and cedarwood to look forward to. In addition, the high alcohol content brings fresh mint and basil notes with it. After the first sip, the fruity sherry sweetness is replaced by the leather notes and the oak is a bit spicier. The malt reminds of mocha with metaxa, old cognac and herbal-sweet black balm, without showing an unpleasant alcohol severity. In addition, some forest honey now shows musty coat and sweet licorice.
    • Taste
On the tongue are very sweet milk chocolate, juicy strawberries, blueberries, sweet roasted coffee and soft cedar. Shortly thereafter, the mouth is filled with amaretti and speculoos with cinnamon, sweet forest honey, resinous oak and musty fur. In addition, a strong espresso note builds up.
    • Finish
In the finish also dominates the soft milk chocolate, which is embedded in sweet-resinous woody flavors like a very spicy Rezina. In addition come again nutty amaretti biscuits and some candy, licorice and marzipan. In the end, besides the spicy Rezina, there is a subtle fruitiness and some ashes leaving a peppery mouthfeel.
