Proper, mature, refill bourbon whisky, leaving enough room for the spirit to shine, but not without a decent influence from the cask. Thumbs up.
    • Nose
Quite nutty to start, with almonds and hazelnuts, but there's lovely floral notes and soft fruits here as well. Think green apple and pear skin. Hints of straw, as well as subtle spices, wet rocks and feint beeswax. Finally settling into a sweeter zone, with honey and vanilla. Very agreeable.
    • Taste
Accessible, but then it becomes bigger. Oily and sweet with gentle orchard fruits and mandarins, before spices take over. Nutmeg and white pepper, mainly.
    • Finish
The fruit takes over again, making for a friendly and pleasant finale.

A very nice and friendly dram, a crowd pleaser. Not very complex, but a great one to enjoy during a beautiful summer day. Yes, I believe the name says it all!
    • Nose
This is very nice! Some lovely fruits to start with, like peach and pears. It’s somewhat waxy. Then sweetness is added. Pastry and sugar. Finishing with a bit of bitterness and freshness of grapefruit.
    • Taste
It’s fruity, fresh and sweet. It starts with orange peels and mandarins, but slowly changes into canned pineapple. Then the sweetness takes over, that brings us back to the pastry again.
    • Finish
The finish is mid-long, there are some bitter fruits and a little bit spicy. Very enjoyable!

  3. St. Pauli scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Another superb Longmorn. It's not the biggest surprise that you could dream of, but a whisky close to the distillery profile. I happen to like this very much, as it's friendly and complex.
    • Nose
Well, this is again a true classic Longmorn! The distillery character is not overpowered by the wood. As often: refill does the trick!  What the nose reveals, is fresh, summer-minded aromas of meadow flowers, grass, mint, and the classical Longmorn-aroma of apple and pear. Behind that, there is vanilla ice cream, polished old wood, and a hint of hazelnut. The barley is still noticeable, giving a mild husky and mineral touch.
    • Taste
Starts friendly and oily, but gets bolder quickly. The attack has grass, mint, but develops on ripe orchard fruit, honey, husky barley, wild flowers, hazelnut, and pepper. Reduced, it's friendlier, but less punchy, and a tad more mineral.
    • Finish
Spicy, not that drying, but with a pleasant acidity. Cinnamon, pepper, dark cherries, ripe pears, hazelnut, vanilla and a backbone of malt.

    SMWS tasting notes:

How about this for a picture; sitting in a comfortable leather chair on a patio, overlooking a wildflower meadow on a late spring afternoon smoking a cigar and your best friend, a Labrador, lying content at your feet. We were eating dark chocolate eclairs accompanied by an Affogato coffee with ice cream and a dash of Frangelico hazelnut liqueur. With a drop of water late sunrays were beaming through the clouds and we snuggled down under a soft cashmere blanket to enjoy a summer fruit salad with whipped cream, port poached pears and a glass of intense aromatic spiced Australian Shiraz wine.

DRINKING TIP: On the patio at sunset
