Had an A'bunadh for a long time. Batch 58# is easy to drink, alcohol is well integrated, less squeezing than previous batches. BUT, I won't remember him.

And like prev. batches: With water (a max of 40%): Sweet Popcorn! Salty honey, at least more oak. Every time a new adventure with many hidden paths! Quite a nice batch.
    Concerning price/performance ratio: 9/10
    • Nose
Spanish oloroso Sherrybomb! Almost dried glue on a carpet, raisin, vanilla, plums, apricots, hazelnut.
    • Taste
Brown sugar, raisin, vanilla, plums, sweet figs, dates, some rum notes.
    • Finish
A long and dry finish. Dark chocolate, mocha, wood and nutmeg.

Big sherry notes like raisins, dates and figs. Orange peels and with a drop of water also redberries. Ofcourse there is a clear sherry note too. It turns sweeter now with some praline and honey. At the end cinnamon.
    • Taste
      90 90
Again big sherry notes. Raisins, dates and plums. Fruity notes like oranges and blackberries. And in the palate also sherry. With a dash of water I taste brown sugar. Dark chocolate and oak complement each other very well. At the end very spicy with hints of nutmeg, cloves and ginger.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium-long. With hints of sherry together with raisins. But it stays spicy aswell. Hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. And at the end also oak.

The A'bunadh are just awesome! For almost 60 € and always about 60 turns you can (not) do anything wrong. The PLV benchmark for a "sherry bomb".

Good whisky, interesting in the format of leisurely tasting. Classic shepherd, balanced. A bit extreme to taste, in its pure form, it's hard to overcome. However, with the addition of water, it became much worse, flattened.
    • Nose
      88 88
Many oak, pronounced sherry, coconut milk, vanilla, roman style, exotic fruits, berries, citrus fruit candied fruits, honey, Christmas cake, dried fruits, dried figs, marzipan, plum jam, chocolate candies with liqueur, raisins, marinades, leather notes, dust, cardboard. Spirituality is felt by pinching the nose. With the addition of water manifested greens, tobacco, sour berries.
    • Taste
      88 88
Peppers, freshly oak, plums, candied fruits, tea black tea, black chocolate, red berries. At full strength it is very saturated, even stunning, on the verge of receptor perception.
    • Finish
      90 90
Plum, pepper, oak, warm, volumetric, juicy, sweet, long, chocolate, orange. As for me, the oak has a bit of a surplus. Very informative, pleasant aftertaste.

    batch 58!
    • Nose

Nose deep enough, well sherry, on plum, mocha, cooked cake notes, brown tobacco, some bitter chocolate, a little spicy (cinnamon, clove, pepper), a slightly vegetal (straw) and the was quite marked after aeration.
    • Taste
      88 88
Alcohol well integrated. Sherry rather dry, slightly creamy, on notes of strong coffee, dried herbs, tobacco, raisins, always spices (clove, pepper, ginger). Not very sweet. Less greedy than expected.
    • Finish
      88 88
Very long, powerful, on coffee, bitter cocoa, spices (ginger, pepper, clove), the barrel remains marked.

      A good sherry.

    Nose:
Quite big sherry nose! I love it. It needs water, for the alcohol burst is rather high. you will get raisins, other dried red fruit and a vague hint of wood.
With water: It benefits with quite some water. It becomes more dark, with chocolate and leather notes.

    Taste:
Booom! Thick syrup, red fruit, red berries, and red fruit sweets. Ticks all the boxes of a good old-fashioned sherry bomb. With water: it tames a bit, but it keeps it red fruitiness.Body:
    Robust and creamy

    Finish:
Long lenght. This finish is rather mild without water. It gives you all the previous sherry and red fruit notes. But also a hint of sawdust. With water: more sweet and sour notes come up, but it doesn't change very much.

    Price:
Always fair this range with prices around €50-€60

    Presentation:
    Decent

To me a very balanced A'bunadh once again, that lives up to its older brother and sisters.

It takes water very very well and the alcoholic surge/spicyness that one might be confronted with gets solved very easily.

N- Upfront with bready doughnut coated with melted sugar melaka, with hint of exotic wood smoke that gel with dried figs and raisins. Follow by whiff of complex mixture of mineral and feinty notes, lightly salted red bean paste. Thought there are some curious kippery, or perhaps mushrooms notes at the tails, along with raw heating strength that are quite disturbing.
P- Is punchy as it should be, with well integration of flavours and generous offering of rich oak-y sherry notes that comes thru fluently. Tasty dried fruits and orange flavoured liquorice.  All good but somehow, seems a wee lack on the body.F- Long, immensely spicy. Pungent ginger and spices come fore with waxy coat. A battle of oak and strength that strike up a good balance fights, with the later have a slight upper hand on each bout.

Really nice. Rich, lively, and not overly drying. Probably my favorite of the series (34, 52, 58)
    • Nose
Rich and velvety. Lots of fresh oranges, wet tobacco, raisins, milk chocolate, cardamom, stale ginger, jalapeno. A little lavender and dried leaves in the background. Oak is big but it feels sufficiently rounded and integrated. Sulpher rears its head at times – just wait it out.
    • Taste
Chocolate covered oranges, coffee, raisins, toffee, dry cinnamon, clove, and ginger.
    • Finish
Long and lingering, focusing on the coffee/toffee richness with lots of winter spices and a measured bitterness.

  36. Collegiate scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Enjoying this batch more than the last one I had (batch 55, which struck me as one dimensional) as it is much more complex and spicy.  Aligns much more with some of the better batches I’ve had before (47,49).

  37. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

As usual with a'bunadh - always tasty, always different (otherwise you could also save the batch-fuss), still priced acceptable (although with 60 € for NAS now borderline). That's why I like to try again and again.
    • Nose
Maggi, spicy sauce, acid (balsamic vinegar), burnt match ... after a while in the glass, it becomes sweeter, dried fruit, milk chocolate, leather and tobacco, but this sour-spicy note remains present, from the sample bottle and directly at the pouring also a bit meaty
    • Taste
yummy, tart, leather, tobacco, a bit earthy, molasses, very strong, angular (but not very spicy), with water it gets chocolatier, sweeter, but also the acid gets tickled out again, herbal vinegar, but this time without the maggot notes
    • Finish
strong, but also not very hot, first medium leathery with Storck giants, then warm and very dry

  38. Olybrius scored this whisky 65 points Member Junior

A frankly defective whisky. The integration of alcohol is deplorable, it was diluted, it remains undrinkable, as the bite of alcohol is lively. There may have been a problem with the bottle in question. But anyway, what I had in my glass was frankly bad.
    • Nose
Not very expressive at first, seems to be a prisoner of alcohol. A little kirsch. Burn the sinuses. With water: it's better. Milk chocolate, prunes, black cherries with brandy ... and still a lot of alcohol.
    • Taste
It's strong. Too much. Behind the burning sensation, we do not feel much: black and red fruits, rather indistinct, nuts maybe. Quick water! With water: the attack is much softer, on milk chocolate, caramelized hazelnuts, and in the line of the nose prunes and black cherries. Then the burning of alcohol comes up again and is felt intensely.
With a lot of water: ditto. No way to get rid of alcohol.
    • Finish
It burns. Alcohol takes everything in its path. It is very unpleasant.

    beautiful sherried
whisky with the complete christmas cake
experience, with notes of coffee, tobacco, and a beautiful cake-y taste, sadly
it’s too spicy for my taste, but still deserves a good score because
    ultimately… it is good

  41. Greenkeeper scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Wonderful sherried whisky which lacks depth and maturation. Seems this batch is less on the tabasco side and more based on the coffe-and-tobacco side of the genre. One of the better batches, in my eyes even matching the excellent #56.

Also, this batch takes a lot more water without drowning than previous batches and that's excellent, too. Already good and overwhelming at the first sip - but don't get fooled by the first sip. In my eyes, a very good whisky -beyond 85 points- has to offer more than that. This one is an excellent young sherried whisky, but I have to say it again, what a pity that we don't get this wonderful stuff with some more maturation of all the stuff in it, let's say 15 or 17 good years.
