    An exciting whisky. The wine is very present, but surprisingly frich and does not stick to the whisky, which fits great. More of that.
    • Nose
      Tart, fruity, vinous, with smoked bacon, vanilla, rhubarb, cranberries. Surprisingly fresh. I like it, because the nose is a bit unusual.
    • Taste
      Strong start, bitter, sour-fruity, bacon, peat, a bit tingling.
    • Finish
      Herb, very vinous now, oak, distinct smoky and peaty notes, still a little rhubarb and towards the end sour and tart.

    Simply a matter of taste The nicest thing is that he has no serious weaknesses for a 12y for all those who like his notes a great whisky

      very sweet, caramel, sulfur with sweet raisins, lilac and cucumber water, slightly oblique but very intense nose with many notes, brown candy in silver fir honey (is slightly bitter and intense)

    All in all a successful malt. You have to like such a wine finish already, that's not a whisky for a while.

    Parallel tasting with Ballechin 2004/2016 12yo Manzanilla Single Cask
    • Nose
      87 87
      The wine barrel makes itself immediately noticeable. Very strong aromas of fermented red grapes, sour. Dark berries, musty forest soil. Over time come oak flavors and pepper. Smoke is discreet and distant.
    • Taste

      At the beginning, incredibly cute. Red wine + spices = mulled wine?
      The sweetness is clouded by smoke after a while, becomes weaker. With the smoke comes a strong oak, the vinous sweetness gives way completely. Pepper and thyme come. A very dry whisky from the beginning.

      The finish is medium to long, very dry, with clear smoke and oak.

    Nose: madness what a flavor. One of the best noses in my whisky year of 2016. Strong red wine aromas, sour berry fruit, oak notes, some citrus and cumin, super-integrated warm smoke. Really delicious and better than the manzanilla.
    Taste: first some fruit, then heavy oak and ashes, the smoke is now more dominant, bitter roasted aromas and coffee, in the finish then a mixture of burnt oak and wine gum. He got a bit too much oak. At the first dram I found that even more extreme. Once you get used to it, the wine notes slowly come out again. In addition, the times really dry (as when chewing sawdust ^ ^)
    Interesting and delicious malt. Not quite as balanced and deep as the Manzanilla but now after the second tasting I have to say that has something special. He will certainly find his fans but also enough people whom he is too violent.

    Phew the red wine comes towards you immediately. Like Christmas mulled wine in the nose. Dry, bitter liquorice, blueberries and smoke
    , very intense on the nose.
    On the palate, the lively note of liquorice and smoke is fruity
    Not easy to taste.
    I'll try water with it
    It becomes fruity raisins, dates, figs, but the tart note remains. The heavy, massive one also remains.
    The barrel clearly dominates.
    For 12 years a heavy part, I would take it to min. 18 years estimate.

    Clearly fermented berries and unfortunately also sulfur. Smoked ham, pine needles. The nose becomes sweeter with air and water, plums with cinnamon. But he also got wood. Fortunately, water also weakens the sulfur aroma. Quite ashy from the smoke.

    A lot of ash, wood and fruit. In terms of balance, borderline to the wood aromas. From the fruit side blackberries, blueberries, some gooseberries. Very strong anise and cumin, creates a certain aroma of mulled wine.

    Long, fruity with a slightly tart fruit. Sounds sweet with a Viking blood aroma (mead + cherry juice).


    Beautiful Ballechin, who has a very strong barrel influence, but not too extreme. The distillate is still coming through.

    Still ambivalent in the nose, but very interesting. On the palate, he then shows his true power.

      Tart wine notes with aromas of grape juice and raspberry vinegar. Plum jam, red gooseberry and rhubarb. But where is the smoke?

      Dry spiciness with fruity notes of grapes and figs. Very powerful and astringent. Later, some smoke comes out.

      long and burning
