Violent sherry dominates this Glengoyne. Dried fruit ends in a pleasant sharpness, voluminous and powerful sherry flavors play with each other. I really like a wonderful sherry filling!

    23/23/22/22 (89P)
    • Nose
Intense caramel shines reddish from the glass, on the glass wall of my premium snifter there is a multitude of small "legs". Raisins and dates rise, dried fruits play with caramelized sugar and hazelnuts, oranges rub off, minimally there is a hint of tart citrus fruits. Every now and then the otherwise harmoniously integrated alcohol flashes, the orange aroma intensifies, sweet raisins end in a slightly menthol freshness.
    • Taste
Oranges and raisins dominate the first sip with caramel and dark sherry flavors. Voluminous draws warmth through the palate, wooden sharpness tickles discreetly between the lips, a pinch of white pepper dusted on the tongue. The second sip is characterized by intense dried fruit, raisins, dates, dried orange and grapefruit peels end in a peppery heat on the tip of the tongue, wooden elements and hints of sour cherries are added. The mouthfeel changes constantly between creamy and dry, at the moment the saliva is stimulated.
    • Finish
Dark and dried fruit aromas stick to the palate, caramel drips from the tongue, creamy hazelnuts come into their own, the mouthfeel becomes greasy and oily. The voluminous aftertaste sticks to the palate and flatters the tongue.

    • Taste

with water: softer, polish, slightly chemical
    • Finish

a great Dram I appreciate 10-15 years old from fresh barrels - because he seems so active and lively fresh - many spices and fruits united without becoming woody - I would not buy it because neither an age is on it nor the PLV is particularly good
    • Nose
Cardboard box, roux, lime, orange, orange oil, mint, carambola, raspberry pulp, prunes, lemon zest - heavy oily nose, nutmeg, laurel, allspice, a touch teriyaki sauce - waxy heavy sweetness - as you know from older sherry casks, spicy fresh light oak - peppery - aromatic it goes into tobacco notes - if you breathe slowly over the edge - you will find green tea and jasmine aromas - these are fleeting and show us only when the glass gets the peace to form a fragrance bell
    • Taste
Spicy fresh, tingling, plums, lemon zest, peaches and oranges, toasted cereals, oak tobacco - it is rather light and fresh than deep red berry - I know this mouthfeel and the fine spices of SMWS Vigin Oak ripening - but here is certainly some sherry there
    • Finish
Warming, flattering, elegant but strong - light dryness and some wax at the end of the mid-season finish with mint and citrus

Glengoyne have stayed faithful to their core age statements [blog], but have found a reason [a story] to introduce at least one NAS into their range. This ‘Teapot Dram’ is from first-full oloroso casks, and is giving some of their more established expressions a run for their money - so i’ve heard.

N: Delivering toffee-sherried pancakes and leathery oils at huge power.
T: More sherry sweetness but with a nice bitter-sweet vegetal aniseed twist.
    F: Good form.
    C: Indeed, a point higher than the standard 12yo me thinks.Scores a B-

This is definitely more than a daily dram - very well balanced - I never had the feeling that it is over-sherried
    • Nose
Huge and intense dried fruits, plums, prunes, dates, toffee, butter caramel, sugar cane - very good
    • Taste
Punchy, oily, creamy, lots of dried fruits again, figs, nutmeg, very nice oak wood, good sweetness
    • Finish
Long and burning, spicy and peppery but not drying

dark sherry tones ... blueberry? raw taste, solid ... full of character but young

A lot of dry sherry quite complex and well implemented alcohol. Lovely!

  24. LordBellamy scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Nose: toffee and caramel sweetness that always changes to balsamic vinegar, plum jam and almond / hazelnut flavors, the alcohol is quite well integrated, but is present and gives him something fresh, mentholhaftes, oaks and spice flavors come through, especially cloves and some cinnamon , red fruits like raspberry and strawberry

Taste: Sherry explosion in the mouth, quite oily, the alcohol bites very strong here, has a peppery, slightly dry oak

Finish: long and warm, later drier on the tongue, again massive sherry with dried fruit and the hazelnut from the nose is now much more dominant, almost towards nougat

With water: it softens, opens and reveals much more fruit flavors, then vanilla and even some coconut cream with chocolate topping

Significantly better than the previous batches, which is almost back towards batch 1 - 89 points
