the smell is really great when the first Müff is gone after a few minutes, on the palate very powerful and rich for its alcohol content - the alcohol is not perfectly integrated - but according to the label, this malt is only 12yo - the flavor profile I see him in the early 80s and I'm just excited - great stuff
    • Nose
      89 89
old smoke, retrostly nose, wet cardboard, some gum, wax, tender smoke, old oak cabinet wall, furniture polish
later fruity - dried dates, lots of leather, lemon and orange, honey, beautiful notes of wood, licorice, floral, noble
    • Taste
      88 88
Orange TicTac, great creamy dusty old oak notes without bitterness, wax and furniture polish, delicate smoke influence, slightly maritime salty note, herbs, musk - beautiful mixture of tart and fruity
    • Finish
      87 87
long and full-bodied, oak meets chocolate and wax, slightly bitter

  4. Gronqvist scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

An atypical Clynelish. As a mixture of Islay and Sherry Speyside. One of the better young Clynelish.

    Tasted March 2015.
    • Nose
Lemon Peel, apples, orange, cherry, peach, smoked tea, a little sherry, almonds, caramel, tobacco, sea air, anise, pepper, vanilla, light sulfur, lime, a little wax, peat and mineral notes
    • Taste
Citrus, apricots, oranges, lime, honey, nuts, almonds, milk chocolate, wax, minerals, ginger, horseradish, tobacco little iodine, slightly smoky, slightly peat and egtræ.
    • Finish
Long and dry with apricots, lime, fresh nuts, almonds, nutmeg, honey, bitter coffee, marzipan, a little wax and a hint of smoke.

  5. lincolnimp scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Tastes better than the last time I tried it, up a point to 83.
Some nice sweetness up front but its the bitterness and dryness on the finish that prevent it getting a better score.

  6. PuddingmitHaut did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

    (Blind)
    • Nose
Medium-fruity, red fruits, not succinctly sweet, pastries, fine fresh spice, floral, spices, nutmeg, cinnamon
    • Taste
Delicious. Fruity, really juicy! In addition the spices, nice and sweet, but never pushy.

    • Nose
      88 88
neat sherry, furniture polish, honey, lemon
    • Taste
      86 86
soft and creamy, orange, a little toffee, vanilla, spicy, a touch of herbs
    • Finish
      86 86
medium long, the sweetness fades, it becomes lemony / grapefruit, orange with vanilla pudding

  9. Noface83 scored this whisky 86 points Specialist

Tolese Sonderbottling with typical Clynelish character and beautiful wood flavors.
    • Nose
      88 88
tropical fruits, old leather, polished wood, earthiness, a lot of honey sweetness and citrus freshness, a pinch of smoke (burnt wood)
    • Taste
      84 84
extremely creamy and mild, light tingling, honey and orange peel, wood, simple but pleasant
    • Finish
      86 86
The finish is surprisingly long with first bitter wood and tea leaves, then bright fruits and a lot of honey with a little vanilla, to the back then a nice touch of wood (but not as bitter as at the beginning). You should like bitter notes and wood.

  10. Archer scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A few more turns would have done quite well.
    • Nose
Floral aromas are in the nose. A heavy honey sweetness, grain, malt, salted butter (does it smell like anything at all?).
    • Taste
Silky soft and oily, waxy and honey sweet. Mildly fruity with oranges and tangerines. Almond and nut flavors. Coffee beans, toffee. Thin out pretty fast.
    • Finish
Medium long, sweet orange marmalade, honey, beet syrup, a pinch of salt.
