On the nose, black sherry, tobacco, spices, cinnamon, tannin wood !!
On the palate, fatty alcohol, heavy, overcooked fruits, almost burnt, caramelized, wood, vanilla confit, sugar, ... we draw on the rum !!
In the final, we find the omnipresent alcohol, vanilla overcooked, a bit of tar and caramelized fruit!
An uncompromising dram, a little too different!
    • Nose
cooked black fruits, which lets the caramel through before the fruits, the wood is also very present, sticky dust, peppery spices and sherry ... concentrated.

N: Beside the Karuizawa, of course, it’s chalk & cheese - the Kavalan appearing like young rum-like column distillate with notes of sour veg, a little vinegars.
T: Decent pancake sherry with a rum-ish waxiness and plenty of rubber developing.
    F: Ugh no.
C: Probably most unfair to compare them and somewhat futile. But then again, Solist Kavalan single sherry cask bottlings have frequently achieved exceedingly high points from many commentators, me included. Furthermore, consistency in Kavalan’s opening early years has been fabulous. This is still really good 5/6yo whisky, but price of this cask has exceeded calibre.Scores a C

a worthy opponent for the LMDW, I liked it a bit better, but at a higher price.
    • Nose
Pur: clearly more restrained than the colleague for LMDW (S081215025), is also a good year younger. However, the same characteristics of a heavy sherry board. Leather, tobacco, cherry cake, dark chocolate. With water: more intense, more fruit, more of everything.
    • Taste
Pure: sweeter and more pleasing than the LMDW, more dark chocolate chocolate pudding, the leather is also there, tobacco, slightly sulphurous, makes it interesting and edgy. In the middle part then nuttier, also dry, but not quite so extreme. Smarter than the LMDW. With water: makes you beautiful, even more fruity and tasty.
    • Finish
even slightly longer than the LMDW, not so dry, cherry ice, fruity.
