Big sherry influence in there, but also strong in alcohol. Raisins complemented by dates and plums with a hint of cherries. A clear note of orsnges aswell. Right after some sweet notes like vanilla, toffees and honey. At the end notes of cinnamon and some chocolate.

A bit similar to the nose. Raisins with dates and sultanas and oranges. Creamy notes of hazelnuts and a little hint of praline follow. Sweet notes aswell like honey, caramel and chocolate. At the end there is a clear note of oak.

Short unfortunately. The alcohol explosion continues, but only very short. A little raisin with honey, chocolate and oak.

    Tobacco

A.D. Rattray is known for bottling single casks at cask strength. In this case it’s a young Glenrothes on sherry that yielded no less than 607 bottles at a whopping 64.3%. Surely the spirit went into the cask at a much higher ABV than the industry standard, no? I wonder if the cask was able to tame this Glenrothes somewhat.

On the nose it offers a malty heart surrounded by some typical sherry influences such as dark honey, raisins, wild berries and mostly tobacco. Behind this you’ll find some famer’s butter, dried berries and the bark of a young tree. If you are truly patient, you’ll also get some lovely notes of apple juice and vanilla, light brown sugar and white chocolate. This is quite lovely.

It is bright, sweet, feisty and mouth coating on the palate. The ABV makes it a sturdy dram, but water is not needed. Sweet at first, it is soon followed by both a bitter and sour note. Think grapefruit and gooseberries. A bit of chili pepper. A note of fresh coconut appears, together with some wood shavings.

The finish is long, warm and soft, allowing the fruit and honey to come around again.

A young but rich Glenrothes with just enough sherry influences to make it very attractive without losing its own character. Recommended.

Aroma: open, wine-berry, thick buckwheat honey, a variety of dried fruits, - dark raisins, prunes, dried wild berries; sawdust, bark, fruit tobacco for hookah. With water appears melted butter, vanilla.

Taste: bright, rich, the first few seconds of sweet and sour berries, immediately rinse with hot red pepper, then prunes, dark raisins, burnt berry jam, slightly bitter chocolate with the same raisins.

Finish: longer than average, again spices, but without hot pepper, prunes, dark raisins, slightly smoked, turning into light coffee and chocolate notes.

    Rating: 86

The result: a pleasant, spicy berry-raisin molt, does not shine with variety, but fans of such sherry will like it. I also like the presence of malt influence in sherry whisky. A little water is recommended, slightly diversifies the flavor and become more comfortable, less peppery in taste.

Flavor is very strong and the drink should wait a little to get rid of alcoholic sharpness. Flavor continues to open for an each minute and brings new and new notes. Notes of fruits, apples, flowers, citruses, vanilla, sweetness, toffee, sweet baking products, malt. Each element is strong is bright.

Taste is very delicious and bold with elements of fruits (apples, peaches, apricots), exotics fruits (coconut), fresh wood, caramel, spices.

Finish is very reach, long and strongly warming with elements of spices, fruits, malt, baking products, fresh wood and dust.

    Explosive and delicious!
