knowing this is a finish means you are trying to separate out the original cask elements from the finish, which can make for a less satisfying experience than letting it roll over you. One is left wondering what if anything was wrong with the refill Oloroso butt that indicated that a finish in PX would rescue it; it might have been a little ordinary but perhaps it would have been more satisfying without the finish.
    • Nose
      82 82
refill sherry but also with some liquorice
    • Taste
      86 86
sweet dry refill sherry, starts to dry out; repeated sips provide a figgy syrup on initial taste - perhaps this is the PX softening things?
    • Finish
      85 85
medium; quite hot and a little bitterness thrown in; repeated sips seem to leaven this and it keeps some of the sweetness

Cherry, malt, tobacco, apple, caramel and peach.

  3. St. Pauli scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Not the usual dram, but certainly not unpleasant. For the lovers of earthy, herbal sherried whiskies.
    • Nose
Hard to pin down. Forest floor in autumn (with leaves aplenty) cofee beans, dark chocolate, mixed nuts, semi-dried figs, cherries. At the end there is a hint of cedar wood and leather.
    • Taste
Rather hot and sweet at the attack, getting drier yet only mildly towards the end. It develops into a narrow palate with wood, sherry, olives and Mediterranean herbs.
    • Finish
Rather short, mildly drying on ginger, clove, , Italian licorice, wood and a hint of dried fruit.

Again, an exceptional SMWS with a particularly surprising mouth, which can also be seen a little in contrast to the impression of the nose flavors. But as a whole definitely.
    • Nose
Very interesting and distinctive nose, the combination of the various Sherrycaskarten causes a lot here, as a Vorbewerter already wrote I also find here mostly great, overripe Williams pears, in addition crispy caramel pieces, brown sugar, yellow plums, a little Apfelmuß, a few pre-ripe blackcurrants vllt. , Coriander, a few tomatoes actually
    • Taste
In the mouth actually vegetable garden, zucchini, coriander, paprika, chilli, thyme, tomatoes, then back a little sour cherries, slightly sulphured blueberries and olives, a hint of vinegar and red wine for pouring on the grill, very exceptional taste
    • Finish
At the back a little dark chocolate, dark malt, dry leaves and the olives continue, as well as a few dried herbs, medium long and pleasant as it sounds

  10. malthead-sven scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

intense and strong whisky, needs a lot of water and is still too stormy in my taste, which pulls it down a bit
    • Nose
rich sherry, cocoa beans, dry marzipan, grated almonds from the bag, soft yellow pears and dried dates, canned fruit cocktail, diluted with water, the fruits in the background, slate and black olives on the scene
    • Taste
incredibly strong, tingling and earthy, is over time very viscous in the mouth, harsh, almost sharp with some glue, the adequate amount of water to adjust it right, I think not
    • Finish
long with really dark dark chocolate, in addition to olives
