Ein Sherryhammer a la old school - a true christmas galore! Top! PLV: 9/10
    • Nose
      Maggie satt! Fleischig, schwefelig und staubig; dunkle herbe Schokolade; Holzpolitur, Zedernholz, Zirgarrenrauch, merh Schweflenoten; kanidierte rote Früchte, schwere süße und zugleich leicht bittere Rumkirschen; altes, säurebetontes Eichenholz, dunkle Schokolade, Espresso, Irish Coffee? Noten von Cognac;
    • Taste
      Trocken/staubig und eine gehörige Portion altes Eichenholz, sehr mächtig! Edel polierte Zigarrenkiste, kalter Zigarrenrauch, mehr poliertes Holz, speckiges Leder, Schwefel bzw. Schießpulver, verborgene Noten von Rumkirschen, Sherryfrucht im Hintergrund - subtil alter und gereifter Sherry; Kakaopulver, Tiramisu, Rumkuchen;
    • Finish
Würzig, Eiche satt! Wieder Rumfrüchte und das Tiramisu, sehr mächtig!

    • Nose
Leather, black currant, cassis, drying and custard. Dates, some pepper and orange.
    • Taste
      Forest fruits, coffee and Butterscotch.
    • Finish
Drying with Butterscotch and forst fruits.

An excellent independent sherried Glenrothes. That they put it in a nice bottle is just a happy accident. If you like heavy sherried whisky, this is a must buy! True bomb.

All the flavors are clean and pure, the layering and impact are great, personally like it. If you want to pick a problem, the wine is dry, and the fruity taste is not obvious.
    • Nose
Shirley bomb, damp wood (approximately Dona single barrel), dark fruit, licorice, caramel, high fruity and sweetness, thick smell, oak, black currant, fleshy texture, slight leather .
    • Taste
Spicy, dry wooden board, bitter herbs, espresso, black chocolate, cough syrup, a little tannin and tobacco, after the heavier flavor passes, slowly emerges the juice and sweetness of various black fruits, cream, Fruit candy, dried prunes, figs.
    • Finish
Very long, hand rushed to Kenya, plank, Shirley.

    Sample brought from whiskysample.nl
    • Nose
      86 86
Very intense dark sherry notes, coffee, leathery, dried figs, prunes. Unmistakenly good sherry profile, but a little tired and boring. Sweet and concentrated fruit syrup.
    • Taste
      85 85
Strong sherry notes, dark chocolate, dried fruit sweetness. Rather hot on the tongue, some water might help. Strong oakiness, almost bitter.
    • Finish
      84 84
Dry and bitter tannin, quite creamy and spicy. Medium long.

  11. Thermidor scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

It's good, but most likely the cask would have yielded similar quality results regardless of the spirit.
    • Nose
Feels like a typical contemporary strongly sherried cask. Meat stock cubes, meat pastries, slightly rubbery sherry. It's robust and well put together, but there are many like this one. Somewhat Glendronach if you catch my drift.
    • Taste
Quite strong and biting neat, but with a rich, full sherriness that hasn't got any unpleasant notes like sulphur and relatives, or lipstick. Works wonderfully in the mouth as is, but sadly water makes it Just Another Sherry Cask.
    • Finish
The finish is mostly on the sherry, with the meat pastries coming back in the tail.

  12. ctu scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A really big sherry bomb, stray oaky, dry flavors in the end. 89/90.
    • Nose
Big sherry. Antique leather, prune, black currant, fig, tobacco, marzipan and spicy oak.
    • Taste
Powerful, oily. Forest fruits, sherry, milk caramel, coffee and tobacco. Tannic oak. Spices: nutmeg, pepper and ginger.
    • Finish
      Long, dry, oaky, spicy.

Very intense Glenrothes! Not for the faint hearted.
    • Nose
This is what I tend to call ‘deep sherry’! Very umami on roast beef, gravy included, dark chocolate, plums and fresh figs. Some bicycle tyre (rubber, but not over the top) and tobacco leaves. Very good indeed.
    • Taste
Nicely oily and immediately very spicy on the palate with nutmeg, ginger and even some curcuma. Again those deep sherry notes that make him dark and mysterious. Some coughing syrup, roast beef returns as does the tobacco. Beef jerky, treacle and liquorice. Chocolate kicks in. Powerhouse with a mildly drying effect.
    • Finish
Wonderfully long finish, but very dry now. At the death a surprising salty note appears, going head to head with the chocolate. I need a glass of water, now…

Very drinkable and enjoyable - I have to check once against some other heavily sherried Glenrothes distilled in 1997 like the one from Whisky-Fässle but just out of my mind this one at least as good
    • Nose
Heavy sherry, prunes, dates, also some leather boots, little sweet & spicy - pretty OK
    • Taste
Very oily and creamy, nice fruity sweetness, prunes and figs are back again, pretty sticky, the sherry wood stays more in the background than expected - not bad
    • Finish
Medium long, warm and rather sweet than bitter

A very good Sherry Monster, not too dry, very greedy, balanced. It reminds me of the good Glendronach in Oloroso. The lovers of the genre will love. The nose is simply extraordinary.
    • Nose
Big "Sherry Monster". Burnt caramel, mocha, black plum, Christmas spices. Powerful, greedy, intoxicating. Typical, but input that sends good.
    • Taste
Sweet and accessible. Caramelized wood, Christmas spices, tobacco, black fruits, orangetta. Spices tingle the tongue. A beautiful greedy woody and sweet.
    • Finish
Average. Dry wood, a touch of balsamic, dark chocolate. A cool green wood in the back of the mouth, and black peel around the tongue.

    I don't
understand the word balance with this one. It screams sherry and it's brutal sherry. It doens't matter if it's from Glenrothes or not, because it's all
about the cask. Is this a bad thing? If you like a soft and gentle dram, yes.
If you like extreme and very powerful whisky with lot's of sherry, buy!
    • Nose
      The colour
is very promising and there's no way around it. This is sherry! Chocolate
bonbons with cherries, pure cacao, very sweet and dark. Ripe plums and orange
peels. Leather and a hint of walnut makes it dry. Later on more and more roasted almonds.
    • Taste
      That's
quite a mouth full of sherry. Still very much dark chocolate, figs and pudding.
Some chilli chocolate with sea salt that gives a bite. A good bit of oak and a
sour side to it. Balsamic vinegar. Grapefruit, lemon and bitter espresso with cacao powder on top.
Not as warm and soft as other sherryboms. Cigar leaves, tobacco boxes and hazelnuts.
    • Finish
      It's a
little one dimensional on intense sherry notes. Dry nuts and chocola... well
      you get the picture.

Yeah well, a sherried Glenrothes again, I am not a big fan of this profile. Let's say it is not bad whisky, but a little boring. It is a sh*t load of sherry and all very well balanced no eggy sulphur etc, just not very challenging, would not buy a whole bottle of this stuff, but always nice to try and what a colour :).
