It seemed strange to start with a high strength Mannochmore when there was an Auchentoshan, for example, in the line up. As we went along however, the logic behind that decision became evident.

N: Like a powerful astringent modern Deanston if you will, being a fruity, yeasty, malty nose with banana candy and dry pineapple.
T: Malty again, as expected, and with dry cream. Quickly turns bitter and stays that way for some time before finally mellowing.
F: Cornflake vanilla tannins, though it’s still a touch spirity with pineapple cubes most prominent.
C: Though we all struggled with this, I came round to it more & [Mannoch]more. A solid sighter.

    Scores a C+

this was a pretty strong bourbon hitter but not that fierce FF you expect on the nose. Five drops of water - nose a bit sharper and less overt perfume; palate loses some sweetness and finish goes a little hotter, though this might be repeated sips doing this as well. Seems on balance better neat.
    • Nose
      83 83
pungent, perfume, starts to overpower with the prickle. It doesn't seem like your standard FFBB. It is like Irish in the nose.
    • Taste
      81 81
very clean, syrupy sweetness comes on; there is some woodiness in there
    • Finish
      83 83
medium; quite heartburny - the finish stays on the sweet side - not super sweet but it knows what side of the road to walk on; with repeated sips menthol comes through strong. Repeated sips emphasise more woodiness with the menthol

    Basic, but Very good
    • Nose
Rose Turkish delight, pineapple lumps, marshmallows hot buttered toast
    • Taste
Big Vanilla. Your classic 12yo 1st fill ex-bourbon.

    SMWS Tasting Notes

    Colour: Virgin olive oil

Flavour Profile: Juicy, oak & vanilla

Initially it felt like an early morning walk through a pine
forest and the dew was glittering in the first rays of sunshine and when we got
home the smell of mint tea, freshly cut apple slices, warm buttered croissants
with strawberry jam and pain au chocolat made it a perfect start to the day.
Once we sat down for breakfast there was more; tropical fruit juice, sugar
coated cornflakes and a fluffy ‘Pineapple Sunshine’ cake. Diluted, a German
Eiskaffee; vanilla ice cream, strong coffee and plenty of sweetened whipped
cream and the taste was like rose Turkish delight and pancakes with gum syrup.

Drinking Tip: Reward after an invigorating walk
