Whisky Reviews for Glenrothes 1997 WB

Intense "dirty" sherry, a lot of spicy and tart wood, a "brutal" pungency and all sorts of nuts. I can not describe this Glenrothes better in my opinion. A great and somehow unusual malt, I like it very much!
    • Nose
Gleaming and clear, the Glenrothes shines in the glass, rich and pure amber mixes with a reddish glow. From the sticky on the glass wall oily streaks dissolve in slow motion thick and tough drops that take ages to find their way back into the glass. Dark roasted aromas mingle with dried fruits and an old caramel note at the beginning of nosing. Sweet fruit flavors penetrate the dark sherry and caramel flavors, the high alcohol content of 58.8% is noticeable by light tickling in the nose soon. Almonds and hazelnuts mix with honey and vanilla to a sweet and fruity mass from which dissolve after a few moments subtle notes of sulfur and slightly sour fruit flavors. A touch of roasted almonds and a barely perceptible leather note follow, then this intense aroma of dried berries and sweet caramel sets in again. The roasted aromas and the nut mixture are discreetly in the background, again and again tickled the high alcohol content in the nose.
    • Taste
Intensive fruit and sherry aromas permeate the first sip spicy wood elements, the harsh wood tones are noticeably more intense while the dried berries from the nose mix with the lightly roasted aromas. Wood sharpness lays over the tongue, a pinch of white pepper envelops the entire palate in a sharp mist. Spicy and tart wood elements mingle with the dried and dark fruit flavors, a touch of grapefruit and other citrus fruits make the fruit note tart and sour. The second sip is noticeably tart and darker. Dry pieces of wood rest in the mouth before the sharpness of the explosion releases its full force and power on the palate. Pepper, salt and gunpowder let the palate and the tongue glow and radiate an enormous heat and heat. Slowly, the pungency fades and merges with bitter wood and fruit flavors into the finish.
    • Finish
The tongue and the palate are still glowing. Slowly, the woody pepper mixture subsides. Old and dry whale flavors mingle with withered and dried foliage, the finish now looks a bit earthy and wrapped in leaves. The citrus fruits return, some salt rises and mixes slowly with the decaying sharpness. A subtle note of sulfur lies discreetly in the background the whole time, a touch of leather finally mixes with a bit of milk chocolate. The dried fruit flashed again before the finish earthy, wooden herb with a dry walnut note slowly fades away. The decaying sharpness sticks for an eternity under the tongue and on the palate.

A strange beast and my least favourite of the "bottles on the wall" bottlings and not worthy for this occasion for my tongue.

Lovely lightly sherried Glenrothes. I find it very back to basic, and delicately complex.

Light smell, you can't feel the power of this whisky by smelling it. You have to taste it.

The taste is quite intense, and it kind of explodes in your mouth. The power really surprise you, because compared to other sherry whiskys it is heavy and strong

After the explosion in your mouth, you have a long lasting taste of sherry...

He is very varied, but he runs in between a bit out of round; and also the alcohol should be a little less present. Maybe he wins with a few drops of water ...
    • Nose
Fresh cake dough with a good portion of butter ... The alcohol presses quite nicely into the nose; not burning, but powerful. Heath honey and vanilla ice cream, toffee sweets, almond paste. And still the alcohol pushes ... You have to sneak past it. Over time fresh cut flowers, hazelnuts, milk chocolate. Creme brulee.
    • Taste
Very strong and mouth filling in the beginning, slightly tingling alcohol. Nutty, with red grapes and bitter orange marmalade as fruit component. Caramel sweet, coffee beans, bitter honey. Becomes a bit peppery with time. Again this pie entertein from the nose. Somewhat woody and later with bitter herbs.
    • Finish
Medium long with coffee and dark chocolate, roasted slices of orange and almonds and nuts.

Very beautiful Glenrothes, which tolerates well water (possibly even needs)
    • Nose
Powerful, the alcohol almost pushes the whisky out of the glass and it tickles slightly in the nose. The sherry barrel is present, over-clear (slightly sour-sparkling) orange notes mix with spicy hazelnut and lighter, sweet almonds. Fresh biscuit dough mixes with floral and honey sweet accents. Pleasing nose.
    • Taste
Roller coaster. Start as expected violently, the alcohol tingles, the sherry rolls fruity-dry over the tongue, followed closely by chili and spicy wood. No trace of Brennereicharakter, this is the only Sherry Butt speaks. English orange marmalade, balanced between juicy and sweet and fresh, with a handful of student food.
    • Finish
Long in the finish, the aromas rise honey-honey in the throat again
