Plum jam, cherry stone, apricot jam, raisins, ripe sweet grapes, cream, cocoa, sherry, caramel, nougat, butter, black tea, overcooked peanuts, almonds, spices, tobacco, smoke. A lot of sherry!

The oak is quite dominant, the distinct vanilla and caramel associations suggest American oak

    Weak nose.

Not bad, but also not great, could have had potential if it stayed longer in the cask.

Despite that still a solid and enjoyable dram

If not for the finish, that'd be a tie. Well, anyway, quality remains high.
    • Nose
Tasted side by side with cask #6629. Very similar profile actually, though this one might seem a bit more dusty, extractive and "plankish" on the nose, as opposed to the chocolate syrup of 6629. The latter does have some transient sulfur at the beginning though, which this one doesn't seem to have (but all that is much a matter of aeration isn't it).
    • Taste
More nuttiness than in 6629, which structurates it beautifully. A plus. But woodiness integration could be better at times. On the other hand, alcohol integration seems better in this one. Otherwise, same general profile on nuts, dry chocolate, soft spices and biscuits.
    • Finish
Slightly more austere and frankly woody again, but that's still a very okay finish we're talking about.

Pretty young in appearance, roundness and spicy oak. In the mouth, rather accessible, powerful and present, it is also supple and spicy. Not very greedy surprisingly. Final dry, on the fruits ... dry them too. With a little water, the nose becomes exuberant with toffee, honey and especially nuts in strength! The mouth is more honeyed too with some notes of coffee that I attribute to European oak. This oak found in the final. One of the most austere Glendronachs (but I say that without being pejorative) that I've tasted - and it's also one of the youngest, this maybe explaining that?

    Enthusiasm 4/5
