This whisky is dominated by dark, green notes that obviously come from the barrel. With water it opens up, but the taste drops off clearly from the nose. Despite the strong aromas I personally lack complexity, it is too wood-heavy for my taste
    • Nose
      88 88
Pure: Strong alcohol; dark fruits (plum, fig, dried apricot), fresh oak, wood juice, very light smoky note; roasted hazelnuts; tends to a rather cool, green nose. The alcohol dominates the aromas.

With water: getting darker, the fruits now dominate more, more sweetness, becoming more floral, spices like clove or star anise become recognizable. Wine notes and orange peel
    • Taste
      85 85
Pure: wood, dark fruits, the alcohol tingles.

With water: It opens up; sweet, mild dark fruits, chocolate. The whisky gets a pleasant, creamy texture.
    • Finish
      84 84
Not excessively long, very alcohol dominated at the beginning, even with water the aromas are limited to the cask notes, only a little fruit is perceptible. Clear sweetness and light tobacco notes at the end.

very good, if it wasn´t for the price I think I´d prefer the kavalan but considering ....I don´t know,
I think I´ll buy none of the two although they´re both very good
    • Nose
      tasted immediately after amrut portonova.
      so India vs. Taiwan:
though I liked the portonava´s nose very much the point for the nose goes to Taiwan. both are complex and very fruity but the kavalan is a bit more distinguished and less winey. to be honest, I had guessed it was a sherry cask maturation because of the raisins that cannot be found in the amrut. other than that we have a similar berry fruitiness, hints of leather and clay.
    • Taste
intensely fruity with a juicy to creamy mouthfeel.
again I had guessed it to be a sherry maturation despite the strong berry fruitiness. tobacco, chocolate, coffee beans. relatively dry.
this time amrut and kavalan have to share the points.
    • Finish
      medium to long, spicy

intense, some dark fruits, a lot of alcohol, a lot of fine spices and herbs. fruity, some berries. all good. but allthough the ABV it tastes flat after a while. the finish is rather short and I miss complexity after the first sip.
