Whisky Reviews for Loch Lomond 2006 JWC

- This Loch Lomond noses like new make, pear drops, a little lemon, very feinty and super simple. This extends to the palate, tastes much younger than its 10 year age statement. Opens with those new make pear drops, a touch of lemon oil and then quickly fades to a short and bitter finish. Water doesn't help as it brings the tannic spice front and center and forecloses what little finish there was at cask strength. Nothing flawed about it, just can't see why someone decided it was time to bottle this as a single cask.
- A really nice dram!
Strong and deep aroma of pears, lemon, malt, and floral honey. Water makes these notes more expressive.
The nose translates perfectly to the palate with an emphasis on lemon and honey. Some spice and heat from the ABV, but it's perfectly quaffable even at full strength. Water subdues the spice but the notes remain the same, with lemon-honey predominating slightly.
Spice and lemon-honey billow up in the mouth for a long finish. Longer and spicier with water.
