Excellent value overall. Very good sherried whisky, strong and young, but that's no problem IMHO. I'm quite sure there is some old stuff in there, too
    • Nose
      90 90
Old, musty sherry casks mixed with younger, fresh sherry casks, red fruit, some fresh green fruits, very pleasant, medium dark chocolate, some mint, raisins, some walnut, some rotting wood, fudge, excellent
    • Taste
      87 87
Strong, rotting wood infused with sherry, minty chocolate, ripe red fruits, fudgy raisins, and yes, again the walnut
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium long, slightly bitter, dark chocolate sticks to the back of the tongue while the ripe red fruits die slowly in the mouth,

A great sherry malt. Rather dry spicy with very distinctive wood impact.
Not that hard. Increased drinking strength.
    • Nose
Nose: spicy nose with sherry, subtle sweetness and a spicy note of European oak. Seems vaguely familiar to me, quite retro in terms of aromas. Great.
    • Taste
Has a lot of pepper in the mouth. Subtle sharpness with an overall rather mild mouthfeel. The oak creaks quite a bit and brings along some bitter spiciness.
    • Finish
The finish shows a lot of sherry again, also liquorice. Some mint, cool. Dry sherry flavors. Lots of wood. Fantastic seasoning. A really great aftertaste.

beautiful Glendronach, very intense sherry aromas, not particularly complex, but very tasty.
    • Nose
strong dark fruits, dried fruits, plums, raisins, grapes, caramel. Nice notes of sherry
    • Taste
tart sherry notes at the beginning, very powerful in the beginning, dried fruits, caramel, pepper, dark fruits, honey. Then becoming slightly sweet.
    • Finish
nice dark fruity, strong finish. Intense sherry notes, here, too, the sour notes briefly appear. The strong sherry notes linger on the palate and in the oral cavity for a long time

Great whisky that can also take a little water and opens up a little more.

Caramel, plum, dried fruit, Zibärtle, great seasoning
    • Taste
      89 89
spicy, herbs, caramel, great sweetness, dried dark fruits, creamy mouthfeel
    • Finish
      88 88
warming with lingering sweetness and caramel

Close to the 12 years old with a little more spice and punch
    • Nose
Toffee and caramel, on the sweet side with a note of ginger spice. Citrus oils and delicate hints of chocolate.
    • Taste
The sweetness is there, the spice and heat us also there. There's chocolate drops with a touch of citrus and orange, sweet and sour mix.
    • Finish
Finish shorter than expected but still longer than most others on the market.

1468) The GlenDronach, Cask Strength, Batch 6, Bottled 2016
    • Nose
N- After Glengoyne, another CS release by the Highland-er. Highest strength to date for their CS series so far. Albeit the lively strength, shows rigidness at first, before the dried fruits emerged with spicy nuance. Molasses and dark caramelized pastry. Whiff of chocolate lead to fermenting soya. Rather tight but do open up a little more after breath with jammy fruits and berries. Much align with the 12YO but at high strength. (87/21)
    • Taste
P- Creamy bitter chocolate, espresso mocha with treacle, rich and roasted. An unusual for Glendronach, but a nice citrus and lemon candy at retrohale. (87/21)
    • Finish
F- Long, good staying stamina with firm grips, dry and echoing with dried fruits and sweet spices. Warming with increasingly more lemon come fore...somewhat urging me for a whisky sour now... (87/21)

    • Nose
      85 85
Tangerine, leather, slightly floral, pepper. Not particularly complex
    • Taste
      86 86
Sweet, light leather, peach. Quiet, but not very complex
    • Finish

I really liked the old revival 15 and 18 year old. This CS is a little different but also very good.
    • Nose
      88 88
sherry, little bit closed, leather, oranges, marmalade, chocolate, dark fruits, cinnamon, typical glendronach, sherried whisky.
    • Taste
      86 86
This last note develops in the taste, with a meaty bite, wood, not only dark red fruits, but also some lighter notes behind the high abv.
    • Finish
      87 87
fruits, blackberries, spices, not that dry like the 15 and 18 years old, sweeter.

  24. Pyromann scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Wery good dram. I was impresssed by those spicy notes in both nose and taste. I was discovering interesting hints thoughout whole tasting of this whisky. Really good.
    • Nose
Soem mysterious spices dominate, there are also fruity notes - bananas and something more fruity. The nose is whole based on the sherry sweetness and softness.
    • Taste
Tasete is very robust and intense. Cask strength lets us know about itself - there is some sharpness related to higher ABV, but nothing unpleasant, more like heavy and solid. A combination of heavy chocolate sweetness, sherry, some mysterious spices from the nose. Then there are some overripe fruit of course. Would go well with a drop of water imo
    • Finish
moderate, mix of sherry and chocolate sweetness and spices

  25. Sapiano scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

This batch i somehow do not like. Maybe it's too bitter and too sharp to me or needs some water. I'll try... Mmmh. Water doesn't help. Bitterness stays but fruits disappear.

A nice affordable glendronach with a decent body and quite a nice balance. It misses some depth. I guess it would be much better with more age to it but still a very pleasant drink!
    • Nose
Warm, thick spirit. Sherry, lots of it as usual with Glendronachs. Old dry wood influences. Cherries, raspberries, raisins. Quite a lot of PX influence in this batch.
    • Taste
Punchy arrival. Lets add some water. Better now. Nuts comming up, red grapes and a hint of sweet tropical fruit note. Creamy and a decent body. It is quite young i feel
    • Finish
Medium finish full of sherry and nutty notes accompanied with some vanilla and raisins.

Nose on a mixture of dried fruits (hazelnut, almond and nuts), wood glue and vanilla and honey tips. Attack sweet, texture rather thick, we find the dried fruits, end of the mouth on the prune. In the end the dried fruits fade slowly to reveal a little pepper and a resinous side that persists.

    • Taste

On the nose, wood, spices and sherry
In the mouth, it is high alcohol level, then the sherry light (cooked apple, cherry, sweet grapes) embalm, then grilled cinnamon level spices appear, back of the young wood, present but not dominant!
In the end, medium to long with spices in the bottom of the glass and macerated dried fruits!

A strong dram not to be taken lightly, even if it remains young, characteristic spicy dominance!

the flavors are just absolutely beautiful on this one, whatever fault it may have on being a young/NAS whisky is made up for by the intense and elegant fundamental flavor that is present all throughout
    • Nose
good quality sherry, buttery floral, sweet, stewed fruits, sugars, coffee, bread, tea, hint of grass
    • Taste
rich, very spicy (dissipates if given time), stewed fruits, elegant sherry, red wood, bread, butter, coffee, hint of cinnamon
    • Finish
short-medium-short (depending on time), the spiciness will get your attention, woodsy, sour plums, rich fruitiness, sweet grain, hints of coffee, sweet and sour plum sherry at the back

  38. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

A very nice sherry cracker in cask strength, but rather something for the rustic, is now no raisin syrup and no Mokkabombam I like it but actually better than some ladys.
    • Nose
Very strong, red berries, mocha, dark chocolate, old but definitely not (but not metallic), nutmeg grated, some cinnamon
    • Taste
Caramel filled with red berries, ginger raspberry jam with a slightly youthful alcoholic touch, orange peel, grapefruit, hints of sulfur vllt. even in the background, nutmeg, all very warm and a little bit pointed
    • Finish
Apple peel, rotten strawberry, grapefruit, young oak, short to medium long

86/87. Better than the preceding batch in my memory. Compared to batch 4, that one was a bit fruitier and this one a bit fudgier.
    • Nose
Cranberry, caramel, cherry wine gums, brown sugar, marshmallow, nutmeg and crême brûlée. Maltier with a drop of water.
    • Taste
Caramel, cranberry, hazelnut, mocha and pepper. Also here a malty touch when adding water. Don't add too much.
    • Finish
Nutty, caramel. Also still berries, but less.

very good stuff in my opinion. head to head with batch 4 I find this still better, although Batch 4 was better than I had rememberred it.
(will have to go up with it)
    89/100
    • Nose
lovely, very straight sherry nose on rum raisins and spices like allspice, cinnamon. the oak  brings out hints of lapsang souchong tea and quite some leather. there is also some toffee and freshly ground coffee. roasted aromas that remind me a little at glenmorangie signet.
find this nose very good, after the last two batches that had disappointed me a little.
    • Taste
very good. even with water it has quite some punch and the whole mouth is covered with a big spiciness and dried fruit. the oak is strong but very pleasing and still there is this signet feeling.
I think they used older casks in this one, I find it really astonishing
    • Finish
      very long, spicy, warming
