  1. Lakerfield scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Another very good '77 Glenturret that just oozes fruit. Everything is in the right place, making this a very fine example of balance. If it were a little less minty, it would cross the 91 mark. You should buy this anyway!

    Based on a sample.
    • Nose
Loaded with fruits, oils and some pastry-like notes. Orange, apricot, tangerine, date, blueberry, pear juice and pineapple. Then glazed donut, banana bread, milk chocolate and peach yoghurt. Further on honey, wax, hessian, mint, walnut, balsamic and a little varnish.
Fantastic nose where the mint is just a little too prominent. Very good nonetheless!
    • Taste
Big, oily and warming arrival without getting hot. Almost an exact copy of the nose and that's good. Orange, tangerine, date, pineapple and cranberry. Therafter we have glazed donut, sultana, custard, honey and wax.
Some balsamic, pepper and mint too.
Very high quality and not a single flaw. And more important, delicious.
    • Finish
Long! Caramel, dried fruits, honey, creamy malt and a little pepper in the end.

  13. St. Pauli scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Old Glenturret hardly disappoints. Also this one is fabulous stuff. The only reason for not reaching 90 points in my book is that the palate is a bit unbalanced and sweet. 22 P.
    • Nose
Very fruity, with pineapple, tangerines on syrup, orange and raisin. Next there is a woody layer with soft oak, and vanilla custard. At the end there is cinnamon and mint. 22 P.
    • Taste
Very sweet and and syrupy. Tinned tangerine is most prominent, then ripe banana, vanilla and wood. 21 P.
    • Finish
Very long and pleasant with a better balance between sweet fruit, sugar, and fresh mint. The oak plays just the right volume, it's soft and delicate. 23 P.

Big whisky, complex deep and oily. I really liked this distillery.
    • Nose
      90 90
Floral. Blueberry, black currant, mandarin and melon. Vanilla, honey and ginger. Lacquered wood.
    • Taste
      91 91
Syrupy and creamy. Pepper and ginger. Mature doak. Fruit essence: orange, pear, melon and mandarin.
    • Finish
      90 90
      Long, sweet, dry.

    Tasted blind. Enthusiasm 4/5 Whisky n ° 1555
    • Nose
Caressing and malty, it is about restraint with regard to fruits. Small butters!
    • Taste
Very balanced, on the malt, with a nice slightly acidulous side. Straight. Alcohol is perfectly integrated. It's elegant.
    • Finish
The final that fades quietly with a lot of sweetness.

"Gouté à l'aveugle 2/8" Another pretty 35 year old Glenturret ... rarely disappointed with their juice. Pure pleasure, I want more.
    • Nose
A very round nose, slightly dark. After a few moments there is small citrus butter or fruit yoghurt (peach), it's up to you. There are slight vegetal notes.
    • Taste
Always on the small butter with apricot, peach and spices.
    • Finish
Woody, pastry with butter, vanilla and some fruits.

The seventh and last dram of the 1st Glen Creatuur tasting.
In the line up of seven drams this dram ended #1 with 70 points. It wiped out al the other drams of the evening.

I was in the lucky position to taste this good stuff before. One of my favorites, my WB rating -> 91 points.

  18. Cubey666 scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Tasted it at the first Whiskybase Gathering in Rotterdam (26 November 2016).

Nose: what a lovely nose full of tropical fruits and goodness. melon, pineapples, toffee, and vanilla to name a few, all mixed together very well and nicely layered

Taste: more fruitness with a creamy body. do i detect some white pepper there, hiding behind more fruit fruits such as peaches, pineapple and pears?

Finish: very long and lingering, what a delight! bit woody here, but still this enormous sweetness

  19. markjedi1 scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Absolutely top whisky. What a pleasant surprise!
    • Nose
Nice, layered nose with all kinds of fruit such as dades, dried apricots, black berries, mandarin from a can, but also pear syrup, toffee apples, a drop of balsamic vinegar and a hint of jute. Very complex, indeed!
    • Taste
It is wonderfully creamy on the palate. And deliciously rich and full on pears, baked apples with cinnamon and red berries, nectarine, grapefruit and mandarin… you get the picture: a whole orchard! Lurking behind the fruit are some spices such as pepper, aniseed, mint and fresh ginger.
    • Finish
The finish is very long, complex and sweet and leaves the mouth completely dry. I feel like reaching for a glass of water, but will hold off on doing so for just a few minutes…

Old (palpably), fine, subtle, melted. And very good. This Glenturret is a whisky to taste and enjoy rather than shell for a very good time.
    • Nose
Fine and melted on the fruit compote. Because this is what is needed at first: a beautiful fruity, dried fruit, fruit compote and jam, candied fruit. In addition to this fruity finesse, vanilla almond and green tea mix. In the background, a delicate scent of beeswax.
    • Taste
The finesse continues. Apple peel, a big lemon cut, and green tea still ubiquitous. Candied orange syrup, and a (big) pinch of ginger.
    • Finish
Old wood dust, bitter baked apple, and a pinch of four-spice.

    • Nose
Galia melon. Apricot jam, honey, mint, white chocolate and apple peel.
    • Taste
Honey, apricot, melon, orange, gold kiwi and vanilla. Better than the nose, which is rare for an old whisky like this. Water makes it less outspoken.
    • Finish
Apricot, caramel, honey, white chocolate, kiwi, melon and malt.

This is a very well aged whisky with a surprisingly fresh fruity character to it. It needs some serious aeration time and hand warming before it fully opens up. I gave it a bit over 30 minutes. But your patience is relay rewarded with lush and mouthwatering aromas. I have to agree with the description of Kintra whisky "they don't make them like this anymore”. This one can keep me occupied (and quite happily so) for quite some time.
All in all a very well matured and balanced whisky.
    • Nose
A subtle, balanced, layered and discreet whisky with aromas of acacia honey, red apples, apple sauce, creamy oak, vanilla, subtle tones of cinnamon, floral tones (dried flowers), burlap, hint of shoe polish, ginger, allspice, linen, pear, white pepper, hay, grass, subtle sherry tones, digestives, green tea, fennel seeds, lychee, kiwi, ripe apricots, bees wax, subtle liquorice root, coconut, berries, citrus (tangerines, and subtle bitter orange), hint of dried fruits, old books and more creamy oak.
    • Taste
A subtle, sweet, rich, balanced and well layered whisky with aromas of antique oak, hay, malt, acacia honey, white pepper, unripe pear, hint of star anise, mint tea, subtle hint of sherry, chamomile, kiwi, tannins, grape seeds, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, ripe yellow plums, nectarines, berries (blackberries, blueberries, elderberries), citrus (grapefruit peels, tangerines) bitter orange marmalade, a hint of almond paste, subtle hint of mocha, caramel, hint of fudge and more antique and creamy oak.
    • Finish
A long, subtle, sweet and slightly drying finish with aromas of vanilla, cinnamon, almonds, apple, subtle tannins, dry white wine, citrus, hint of chocolate, fennel seeds, ginger and creamy old oak.

This is whisky heaven. Granted, I've not tasted all Kintra-bottlings (not even close), but this must be one of Erik's best ever picks.
    • Nose
Oh, this is old whisky :) A thin layer of shoe polish, burlap and varnish quickly vanishes and makes way for subtle the sherry aromas only a good refill cask can create. There's fudge, biscuits. And now more fruit as well, oranges, clementine, raspberries and brambles. Balsamic vinegar too. And finally a hint of chocolate. Ever-changing and complex.
    • Taste
Quite a bit of oak, but I don't mind it one bit. Some brown sugar. This is fruitier from the get-go. Blackberries and cherry syrup. But also pink grapefruit, oranges, clementine and ginger. All very subtle and well integrated. Mature. Maybe a little less complex than the nose, but I'm nitpicking now.
    • Finish
More of the same. Oak, grapefruit. A slight bitterness and then chocolate followed by red fruit. Long.

    Written by Kintra Whisky:

It is a 35 year old Glenturret from a refill sherry cask. Distilled on 18-10-1977....Now I can hear all of you thinking....1977-2016...that should be at least 38 years old. Not this one...
The spirit was taken out of the cask mid 2013 because the... cask was sold and taken to a bottler. The sale however was never finalised. The spirit was put in a container and was held at the bottler until recently it was bottled under the Kintra label. So, like you are used to and deserve...full disclosure and transparency.

The whisky is from the category "they don't make them like this anymore". It's delicate but with enough punch left. Marzipan, tangerines and of course the influence from the oak...but not overwhelming. It's like a chameleon...changing its appearance over time. The aftertaste lingers and brings you coffee, roasted almonds and chocolate flavours...and even then there is the fruity tangerine and orange zest influence.
