This is a very odd one with all the meaty notes, gherkins, dill, fresh mushrooms etc. It has also some nice sweetish sherry notes, but to me it’s technically flawed. Nevertheless I can understand some other people loving it.

A great single cask sherry bomb.
    • Nose
Rich sherry, raisins, prunes, black plums.

Leather and tobacco. Wet slightly sulphoric wood.

      Complex.
    • Taste
Thick and full of dark fruit juices. Meaty. Nuts, espresso and dark choco.
    • Finish
Long, and getting darker and heavier towards the end with some spice developing.

wow - unlike the standard range - much more spice, tobacco, barrel power - less red groats - very exciting
    • Nose
intense creamy vanilla meets dark red fruits, grape seeds, tannin-laden light bitterness, very smooth-looking nose, voluminous, caressing - with a drop of water somewhat herbal tart, balsamic vinegar,
    • Taste
Sherrypower beats, dark berries, cherries, grape, tart - sour fruity, oak - a lot of strong aromatic oak, massive tannins without bitterness, pepper and ginger, cinnamon and cardamom, hints of resin, spicy tobacco, very little sweetness, nice texture - voluminous without being syrupy
    • Finish
Strong, dry, slightly sour, still marvelous fruits, solid chocolate and oak in a very long finish

Delicious complex whisky, with beautiful dark coffee and tobacco tones, and fruitiness.
    • Nose
full scent, spicy, cinnamon. Also a hint of roasted meat, chocolate. Touch of mint, bit of cigar, peach, plum, nuts.
    • Taste
Pure chocolate, slightly stimulating. Full taste. Fruity, peach-like. And Cappuccino.
    • Finish
Long, dry, spicy. Very light tingling / peppery still. And again cappuccino.

Very good single cask Dronach but not worth its high price.

  13. St. Pauli scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

It's a beast of a whisky, very good.
    • Nose
Meaty and sulphury, yet fresh (mineral). Gunpowder tea, oxtail soup, even miso soup, wet pebble beach. Then it's also fruity, with both dried and fresh fruit. Dates, prunes, tangerine, apricot, peach. What follows is a nutty taste of hazelnut and almond. Then, barley, mint and cinnamon complete this complex nose.
    • Taste
Yes, it's rather dry and almost austere, but also savoury. Dried fruit (dates), meaty and sulphury notes (matches/soup), walnut, dark chocolate, and quite some cooling mint.
    • Finish
Long, drying on various kind of spices (pepper, nutmeg, clove, even cardamom), walnuts, some de-surgared, but dried dates, and salted meat. The freshness is almost gone, but that's fully OK.
