This is a very apparently young whisky, with not a huge amount of complexity, but I can’t really fault it for that because it’s a Ledaig, and Ledaig can work really well like that, all that raw distillate character is there and in your face, yum.

    • Nose
Ash. Malt. Barley sugar. A bit new makey. Brine. Custard powder. Lychees. Limes. Chemical smoke, like lye in water. Slight sweet woody undertones.
    • Taste
Milk chocolate. Irish cream. Vegetal peat. Charred wood. Wet campfire. Bit of vanilla and salt going down.
    • Finish
Long. Very briney and quite creamy along with some herbal honey, ash and peat.

Pretty nice Ledaig. What peat, leather, the familiar raw tones of the Ledaig, but that is it. He opens up a bit more with a few drops of water. Prima Ledaig.

    • Nose
Turf, rubber, as if you are walking around the Scapino. Cowshed (sounds less pleasant than intended), fireplace, licorice, sauerkraut. Salty.
    • Taste
Solid, peppery, salmiak, licorice, peat, wood fire smoke. Sweetish undertone, honey
    • Finish
Peppery, warming, reasonably long, peat, smoke, also a little sweet undertone

It can use some water in my opinion, but it’s a typical Ledaig for me.
    • Nose
Sour, sauerkraut, liquorice, fruity, lemon, apples, some juniper and salty.
    • Taste
Creamy peat, sharp, chocolate, citrus fruit, wood.
    • Finish
Somewhat drying, raw, citrus fruit, peat. It keeps lingering in the mouth.

No very complicated Ledaig. Does what it has to do. Solid peat!
    • Nose
Farm-like. Leathery (was). Ciroen and apple. Clearly peated
    • Taste
Solid by abv, powerful waxy peat notes. Little citrus with a lot of spice.
    • Finish
      Pretty long and drying. Sturdy.

Fairly straightforward. It does what it does fairly well, but it can be somewhat one dimensional at times. Definitely benefits from water, which tends to soften the spice and bring out the honey.
    • Nose
Farmy peat notes, underlying dry, acrid, and bitter note as well. Water underscores the more acrid notes.
    • Taste
Oily and spicy arrival. Spice, peat, watery honey, underlying bitterness. Water highlights the dryer, bitter notes, though the honey still lingers.
    • Finish
Dry smoke and spice on the long finish.
