Odd on the nose, very bright, lemon, lime, cotton candy, ashy, doughy and overall very sweet. Chili pepper, cumin, alcoholic flatness in the mid palate, candied lemon. Finish is all lemon and smoke, it feels bright and refreshing but also has an ethanol note that is off-putting. Sweet, fruity but the youth definitely comes through.

    Croftengea 10 yo 2006 (cask 5024) Cooper's Choice 46%.

Croftengea is one of several names used to describe distillates produced at Loch Lomond distillery. 30ml consumed Jul 2021.

    Pale yellow-green.

Aroma is stove gas, spoiled brown apple, some green banana and dirty sand. Not a great aroma it has to be said.

Taste is creamy, soft, faint dragonfruit and lime, building salt, light estery spirit with minimal oak character.

Tastes good actually. Based on the nose you'd be tempted to chuck this out, but it tastes decent. I enjoyed the flavour but what a shame about the aroma. Building white chocolate wafer notes. 3.45/82

Aroma: bright, sour brew, dough, lemon juice, Antonovka slices, zest, coal dust, stove, soot, lime-covered wall, a hint of plastic or insulated wire, light menthol-mint motifs.

Taste: bright, chili pepper, charcoal, charred wood, zest, burnt crust of bread.

Finish: longer than average, slowly fading, Borodino bread, warming red pepper, zest, mineral and salty, medicine, activated charcoal, light chemical shades.

    Rating: 82

The result: an interesting fumbled expellation came out at Loch Lomond, citrus, mineral, with light burning and medicine, because I lacked a little bit of aging in it, the aroma is bursting with youthful notes. Too few 10 years turned out for a refill sherry batt, although the product was quite interesting and unusual.

This Croftengea I seduced less than the previous one. I find it very "basic" and very young in the mouth. A good introduction to peat for a beginner, though.
    • Nose
A blend of vanilla, malt, and light smoke peat. Very quickly it is the malt and the yellow apple that occupy the space.
    • Taste
A lot of yellow lemon, a little straw smoke, and a lot of malty notes; all coated with vanilla.
    • Finish
Average. Lemon juice is still present and refreshes the mouth. The smoke fades and leaves the vanilla behind.

N: Buttery, fatty, sugary, honeyed, yeasty, estery, ey ey hey,…
T: Honeyed and tangy/edgy with [estery] notes of lychees. Nice mouthfeel. Youthful, distillate led yet never immature.
    F: Sour-sweet.
C: It states on the bottle ’heavily peated’. The peat influence is more apparent once the glass has really opened up [an hour +], but early on and in isolation [before subsequent drams], the peat side is rather veiled - or perfectly integrated as to be [almost] concealed. Tangy, yet soft, yet edgy, this whisky would make for a good session malt.

Pretty young, sweet, slightly fruity and peaty, pleasant.
