Chic whisky is full-fledged, mature, assertive, meaningful, with interesting development and transitions. And just drinks well! Chemical-industrial dominant, ideal degree.

    Nose: heavy sherry, oily, grease
Taste: A fairly heavy, oily sherry flavor. Light lubricant. Slightly spicy in subsequent attempts.
Rating: 87 | 100 Quite long finish with quite heavy sherry flavor. Well, quite that whisky. Sometimes it's nice to drink heavy notes. She did not stand out

Great sherry bomb, A bit dirty, musty, dried fruits, herbs. Oily , alcohol good hidden, a bit of tobacco and leather. As a young Ben nevis it was very good whisky.

  12. GAET59 scored this whisky 89 points Member Senior

Nose: Very pronounced sherry, a winey side but not unpleasant and then we go on the chocolate side, the caramel, the butter. We arrive on a mocha cake with even a little hazelnuts. On the other hand, on the nose, we can easily feel the presence of alcohol.
Palate: We find dried fruits and chocolate with the classic Ben Nevis frame that we feel throughout. Alcohol is much better integrated in the mouth
Final: Nice finish, quite long and greedy

A good Ben Nevis, a shame not to have tasted it when it came out.

51.3%? Really ? Another very nice integration of alcohol at Gus't. One downside: the young age. But yum!

Aroma: open, thick, greasy, heavy sherry notes - raisins, dates, burnt sugar, tobacco leaf, leather, refined foliage, red walnuts. The background or even more addition, just as tangibly, mineral-metallic notes, whetstone, rust, burnt match, coal dust, salt; smoked meats are added, - smoked prunes, pork belly. Very rich, associative aroma, class!

Taste: bright, spices, red pepper, slightly acidity of lemon juice, mineral, activated carbon, rich assortment of dried fruits, burnt caramel, tart oak, moderately sweet.

Finish: long, leather, charcoal, slightly burnt plastic, paraffin, tobacco leaf, not sweet stewed fruit, smoked meats, animal fat, raisins, minerals, in the end drying smoky peat notes.

    Rating: 92

Bottom line: the amazing Ben Nevis, the best 10-year-old from the tried and tested! Dried fruit concentrate, richly flavored with minerals and smoked meats, just what I love! It’s unusual to feel in Ben Nevis a lot of smoked meats and coal, very similar to aged Bowmore sherry.

Wow, how mature he is for his young 10 years.
I would have estimated much older, which is perhaps because he is also not so high with 51.3% as some others in this age group (this burning youthfulness).
But he simply did not need it, so full and thick he comes along.
    Unbelievably great malt!
    • Nose
      91 91
Very sweet with a lot of forest honey, because also slightly herbaceous.
The complete sherry range with ripe figs and cherries, rum in the form of Feuerzangenbowle, to make the oak in the background for a wonderful maturity.
I also have the feeling that there is a bit of sulfur far away but maybe that is wishful thinking.
    • Taste
      90 90
Really creamy ... first you have the feeling he is a bit thin but then comes immediately the full flavor cargo, similar to the nose (tobacco and nuts are added to the ripe fruit).
The oak also discreetly accompanies the aromas on the palate
    • Finish
      88 88
If there is something to complain about, but also at a high level, then it is the finish.
Simply because you want such a flavor board longer.
Unfortunately, the finish is medium to short

Excellent Ben Nevis, slightly sulphury but it was not bothering me at all. This must have been a great barrel because it tastes rich, complex and smooth for a 10 year old. If I tasted this blind, I would have said it’s 18-20 years old. A stunning sherried whisky that was released at a bang-for-your-buck price. I wish that I had bought a full bottle of this.

Just wow. Probably my favourite purchase this year. It shares a lot of characteristics with GlenDronach and shits on a lot of older, more expensive sherry matured whiskies. Yes it is that good. It lacks balance being a sherrybomb, sure, but the 'dirty' Ben Nevis style and sherry compliment each other really well. No signs of sharp youthfulness and it is surprisingly savoury. I think sulfur-sensitive palates will have to think twice before buying this. Kind of a hate it or love it whisky and you already know which camp I'm in ;) If I had to nitpick I could do with a little sweeter, less dry palate. That's about it when I'm talking cons.
    • Nose
Hmmm, Oloroso! My favourite. As expected an immediate blast of dry sherry, fruits and savoury notes. We got raisins, strawberries, figs, apricots, oranges, candied apples and maraschino cherries. All these fruity notes are covered in a layer of milk chocolate accompanied by some other sweets. Custard, caramel sauce, liquorice and cinnamon sugar. Roasted coffee beans, lots of walnuts, salt, tobacco, old leather, sulfur, sour milk, balsamic vinegar, ointment, musty earth and a variety of smoked meat makes the picture complete. This is amazing, for a moment I thought I had poured myself a very good GlenDronach.
    • Taste
A little less sweet, more savoury and nutty. Very drinkable at 51% but thick and chewy mouthfeel. The Oloroso really begins to show here as it gets dry, but not too bitter fortunately! Grapefruit, raisin, orange zest, strawberry marmalade, stewed apple, blueberry, marzipan, and salted caramel account for the sweet part. Quite some sulfur but not the rotten eggs/spent gunpowder revolting kind, more like a subtlety of burnt matches. Walnuts, almond milk, balsamic vinegar, paprika, pork chops, beef broth and brine. There is a lot going on and I love it all.
    • Finish
Long.. Heavy on chocolate, liquorice and sour cream. Turns a little chalky and bitter over time.

very successful barrel, from the very beginning there is practically no alcohol even from a blender glass despite the barrel fortress
    • Nose
      91 91
in the foreground is old oiled skin and tobacco, figs, prunes but not smelly, which are often found on sale as noble and pleasant, a little balsamic vinegar, some earthiness and industrial notes. The aroma is very different from the majority of young sherry monsters, which is pleasant, and in general I really like to hear new notes from any whisky
    • Taste
      90 90
the taste is a continuation of the flavor, only there is practically no industry, but prunes are more pronounced

salted roasted nuts, sweet raisins, dried apricots, oily and enveloping

Very tasty molt, for ten years, just great, got a real pleasure.

Tasty sherry whisky with for Ben Nevis amazingly clear smoke. Otherwise there is nothing left of the intense Nevian character.

    • Nose
Powerful. Deep sherry. Autumn. Underbrush. Smoke tip. Spices. Black fruits. Thyme. Butter. If the sherry initially dominates this nose, the character of Ben Nevis ends up expressing itself with volutes of toffee!
    • Taste
Sulfur, the sherry stays ahead. The minerality of Ben Nevis shines through. Perfect alcoholic integration. Fondant on the toffee! Spicy, very flexible, it is well over 10 years!
    • Finish
Sweet, creamy, persistent on the toffee.

      Enthusiasm 4/5

    by Serge Valentin:

Ben Nevis 10 yo 2006/2016 (51.3%, Le Gus’t, Selection VI, sherry, cask #3, 763 bottles) 763 bottles? That’s a butt! Colour: amber/caramel. Nose: used gunpowder and walnut wine. You see what I mean. Then cigars and burnt bread. With water: umami, soy sauce, more walnuts. And even more walnuts. Mouth (neat): quite a bomb! Erm, so to speak. Gunpowder and rather bitter oranges this time, artichoke liqueur, more old walnuts, cream oloroso (you may still find bottles at flea markets), and spinach cooked in beef sauce. Not quite Marmite, but… With water: careful, don’t add too much water, not all sherry monsters like water anyway, that can make them lose their stride. Gets very dry, very oloroso. Finish: rather long, with oranges and cloves now. Another touch of leather in the aftertaste. Comments: this is funny, this baby reminds me of many an old official Ben Nevis. I mean, the sherry bombs. Classic and very good – if you like this style, of course. I do. Same high level as the OB. SGP:361 - 87 points.

For not having tasted at the famous Port Sgioba 826/2001 I will not qualify as a connoisseur of the peaty / sherry profile, nevertheless this one is well done. His young age does not pose a problem, to believe that it's the style that wants that.
    The degree is perfect.
    • Nose
The nose is flattering; No doubt we are on a peaty sherry without concession.
Alcohol does not attack the nostrils, at first glance it really sticks to the oloroso type glendroach revival, cocoa and dry.
The peat is present but hard to describe because of the assembly and leather hints.
    • Taste
Alcohol does not hurt the mouth, I am pleasantly surprised; Everything is melted, nothing exceeds.
Indeed the oloroso profile of the glendro revival is found but in a more spicy version. Peat is not as present as the nose. Neither on the meaty side but a rather salty side that lands halfway and stays until the end.
    • Finish
A finish that lasts long enough to finish with the feeling of dust on the tongue and later once the past salt smoked bacon.
