    • Nose
Powerful. Deep sherry. Autumn. Underbrush. Smoke tip. Spices. Black fruits. Thyme. Butter. If the sherry initially dominates this nose, the character of Ben Nevis ends up expressing itself with volutes of toffee!
    • Taste
Sulfur, the sherry stays ahead. The minerality of Ben Nevis shines through. Perfect alcoholic integration. Fondant on the toffee! Spicy, very flexible, it is well over 10 years!
    • Finish
Sweet, creamy, persistent on the toffee.

      Enthusiasm 4/5

      Whisky n ° 1817

Good Oloroso Sherry Butt, and an interesting nose, and in general, everything is not bad, no, not even good!

very successful barrel, from the very beginning there is practically no alcohol even from a blender glass despite the barrel fortress
    • Nose
      91 91
in the foreground is old oiled skin and tobacco, figs, prunes but not smelly, which are often found on sale as noble and pleasant, a little balsamic vinegar, some earthiness and industrial notes. The aroma is very different from the majority of young sherry monsters, which is pleasant, and in general I really like to hear new notes from any whisky
    • Taste
      90 90
the taste is a continuation of the flavor, only there is practically no industry, but prunes are more pronounced
    • Finish
      90 90
      finally goes to prunes

For not having tasted at the famous Port Sgioba 826/2001 I will not qualify as a connoisseur of the peaty / sherry profile, nevertheless this one is well done. His young age does not pose a problem, to believe that it's the style that wants that.
    The degree is perfect.
    • Nose
The nose is flattering; No doubt we are on a peaty sherry without concession.
Alcohol does not attack the nostrils, at first glance it really sticks to the oloroso type glendroach revival, cocoa and dry.
The peat is present but hard to describe because of the assembly and leather hints.
    • Taste
Alcohol does not hurt the mouth, I am pleasantly surprised; Everything is melted, nothing exceeds.
Indeed the oloroso profile of the glendro revival is found but in a more spicy version. Peat is not as present as the nose. Neither on the meaty side but a rather salty side that lands halfway and stays until the end.
    • Finish
A finish that lasts long enough to finish with the feeling of dust on the tongue and later once the past salt smoked bacon.

Wow, how mature he is for his young 10 years.
I would have estimated much older, which is perhaps because he is also not so high with 51.3% as some others in this age group (this burning youthfulness).
But he simply did not need it, so full and thick he comes along.
    Unbelievably great malt!
    • Nose
      91 91
Very sweet with a lot of forest honey, because also slightly herbaceous.
The complete sherry range with ripe figs and cherries, rum in the form of Feuerzangenbowle, to make the oak in the background for a wonderful maturity.
I also have the feeling that there is a bit of sulfur far away but maybe that is wishful thinking.
    • Taste
      90 90
Really creamy ... first you have the feeling he is a bit thin but then comes immediately the full flavor cargo, similar to the nose (tobacco and nuts are added to the ripe fruit).
The oak also discreetly accompanies the aromas on the palate
    • Finish
      88 88
If there is something to complain about, but also at a high level, then it is the finish.
Simply because you want such a flavor board longer.
Unfortunately, the finish is medium to short

Excellent Ben Nevis, slightly sulphury but it was not bothering me at all. This must have been a great barrel because it tastes rich, complex and smooth for a 10 year old. If I tasted this blind, I would have said it’s 18-20 years old. A stunning sherried whisky that was released at a bang-for-your-buck price. I wish that I had bought a full bottle of this.
