Aroma: open, thick, greasy, heavy sherry notes - raisins, dates, burnt sugar, tobacco leaf, leather, refined foliage, red walnuts. The background or even more addition, just as tangibly, mineral-metallic notes, whetstone, rust, burnt match, coal dust, salt; smoked meats are added, - smoked prunes, pork belly. Very rich, associative aroma, class!
Taste: bright, spices, red pepper, slightly acidity of lemon juice, mineral, activated carbon, rich assortment of dried fruits, burnt caramel, tart oak, moderately sweet.
Finish: long, leather, charcoal, slightly burnt plastic, paraffin, tobacco leaf, not sweet stewed fruit, smoked meats, animal fat, raisins, minerals, in the end drying smoky peat notes.
Bottom line: the amazing Ben Nevis, the best 10-year-old from the tried and tested! Dried fruit concentrate, richly flavored with minerals and smoked meats, just what I love! It’s unusual to feel in Ben Nevis a lot of smoked meats and coal, very similar to aged Bowmore sherry.
