Very different of the standard 14y Oban of today.
    • Nose
Fresh and suprisingly fruity (melon and apricot). Floral notes of hay and Heather. But also hints of smoke.
    • Taste
Juicy and punchy. Lots of sweetness. Intense tropical fruit of pineapple, lemon and mandarines. Warming.
    • Finish
      Quite dry. Pepper and ginger.

[December, 2011]  I had this dram during a FoSM club tasting.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state a sweet (honey), fruity and liquorice profile that is easy to sip.  Some more chocolate aromas in the aftertaste.  The finish is of medium length.

Great Whisky. I wonder if it has been that great when it was freshly bottled.
    • Nose
Earthy, farmy and at the same time quite spicy with a little bit of compost heap. There is also something sweet and a note of liquorice. Like a bag of Haribo Colorado that has been open for one week. Yes that's it. Green pepper sauce. What a nose. I'm barely 5 minutes into it and it's fantastic.
    • Taste
Big note of stewed plums and some Icing sugar is there. Old milk chocolate and cherry liqueur. The palate is not as expressive as the nose but it still has something to offer. After that nose i would have expected it to be a little more farmy. Cherry stones. Peppery- herbal maybe. Flowery in a way (not perfumy). A tiny hint of bitterness.
    • Finish
Long enough. Slightly tobacco-ish and nutty. Honey in the aftertaste.

Almost finished this bottle now, still rate it as one of the best younger distillery bottlings of the 70`s and 80`s.
    • Nose
Smells rich on honeycomb, some coffee which is strange as I never recognised it before?

There are faint orange notes , raisins, old waxed , notes of ham, ginger cakes and those old Lyons treacle sponge cakes in the foil wrappers.
    • Taste
Smooth, buttery, icing sugar but slightly thinner on the palate than the last time I had it.
    • Finish
Medium length but smooth and sweet.

A personal favourite of mine, that is a real pleasure. The bottle design looks great in a quirky sort of way.

    Sadly almost gone now.
