Whisky Reviews for Caperdonich 1995 SV

  1. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A dreamlike Caper, what you can imagine. not always expected by SV, full-bodied and with all the notes that one looks at Caperdonich, vllt. with a bit more oriental notes than usual (spices and intensity).
    • Nose
Pure dark honey, full, fatty butter, light raisins, nougat, cinnamon, trail mix, chestnut, gummy bears (typical Caper note!), Demerara sugar, milk chocolate, sweet tobacco, baked apple
    • Taste
Full, rich, camphor, cardamom, sweet tobacco, plums, dates, ginger, gummy bears, the Demerara sugar again, a lot of dark honey and lightly burnt butter, cherries and milk chocolate
    • Finish
Somewhat spicy-dry with the camphor and cardamom and ginger again, with a hint of malt and pepper, dry nuts and a bit dusty, long

Damn, this is certainly one of the best Caperdonich I have tried in recent years. It will, however, set you back some 300 EUR. When is Father’s Day again?
    • Nose
Delicious but piquant nose with loads of dark and sweet fruity notes. Think raisins, dades and chewing tobacco. But it goes the extra mile with a rum-like touch. Demerara sugar! In the background is some molded wood, dark cherries and milk chocolate.
    • Taste
The body is creamy and round, very sweet and mildly drying. Some more chewing tobacco, but also plums, dades again and something that reminds me of the Mon Chérie candies. Very good! And despite the high ABV, it is perfectly quaffable.
    • Finish
Nice, long, spicy finish. What a party!

  3. ailean scored this whisky 96 points Expert Senior

Of all the whiskys I have tasted, this is my absolute favorite. Lots of sherry but not overpowering.
The whisky is perfectly balanced as far as I am concerned. Caperdonich has an advantage for me by definition. And this one is my darling.

  4. Bishlouk scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Nose right in the big fat Sherry. Dried fruits, tobacco, molasses. Tingling alcohol, to breathe. Sweet and sweet, sweet and pleasant mouth. A candy. Spicy heat, raisin, caramel, tobacco. The whisky tends to soften in the mouth over time, to become even very wise. Final short and light. Drought, tobacco and caramel dryness. Verdict: Alcohol very well integrated, even a little too wise for 55%. A good classic Sherry whisky, gourmet, balanced. Well done.
