A great first-fill barrel has given the Glenrothes a lot. While not dominating the typical dark berries, but this Glenrothes is supported by cherry, orange and intense spicy aromas. A great malt, I like it very much!
    • Nose
Burnt orange slices and old sour cherries flow from the glass after pouring. A variety of spices mix with roasted cereals, dark chocolate and a touch of wet leather rises from the spicy nose. The alcohol is integrated harmoniously, a subtle tart note turns into intense cherry flavor. Toasted aromas mingle with an extreme cherry and orange aroma.
    • Taste
Cool cherries dominate the first moment before violent oak tones explode in the mouth. Intense sherry aromas mingle with the now-crisp oak, an intense cherry flavor is above all else. Roasted aromas are noticeable again, the leather aroma is more intense and leaves an aroma of immature walnuts. Orange peels and spicy wood play together, wet leaves occupy the back of the palate. Wet leather and a hint of dry, old tobacco leaves end up again in a fine nut flavor.
    • Finish
Chubby warm starts the departure. Still roasted aromas, leather and tobacco exude a spicy and fine tart aroma. Fruity elements such as cherries and oranges flash on, wonderfully spicy with a hint of leather and tobacco finish the finish. The aroma of unripe walnuts regains its balance at the end of the finish.

Nosing: Full and fruity sherry, old gum, strong, dark fruits with raisins, deep and complex, spicy, lovage, sweet and a little honey

Tasting: Full, strong and spicy sherry, slightly dry, sweet, dark fruits, bittersweet, oak, Christmas spices

With water: lighter and fresher, fruity, citrus, tart

Comment: Sherry Single Cask in a class of its own! A touch less aromatic than Glenrothes - Whisky Broker 1997 (Barrel: 7157)

Sometimes such a dark sherry soup is really delicious.

Great whisky! In the nose he has gotten a lot of barrel influence and here plays the sherry in the familiar facets the main role. Taste and finish are much tart and spicy, not so intense fruity. Here you can certainly experiment with water, although the alcohol is well integrated. Nice, barrel-heavy and thus unfortunately interchangeable. Malts in this category are relatively common today.
    • Nose
Wonderful! Intensive sherry tones, dark fruits, slightly musty meringue wood, forest soil, rum raisins, milk chocolate, cranberries, oranges, redcurrants, honey, oak, leather, clove, juniper. The alcohol is well integrated and ensures only a slight freshness in the nose. Wild berry jam, cola, more cherries and a pinch of pepper. In the second nose clearly roasted almonds.
    • Taste
Cherries and powerful power, sparkling, followed by a great fruity sherry sweetness, jam, chocolate, leather, oak, honey, light roasted aromas, oranges, the muff is more discreet
    • Finish
slightly bitter oak, nuts, dry sherry, leather, a touch of salt, tobacco, cherries, more subtle oranges, herbs, cranberries, bay leaves, pleasantly long finish.

Nose. musty, wet leaves, dried orange peel, deep dark sherry with hints of dark chocolate, black cherries, cola syrup sweetness and roasted aromas. The oak is noticeable with aromas of leather and Christmas spices. Water changes little on the nose - the spice notes are unfortunately something in the background. The alcohol is great and it is incredibly fun to sniff. There is so much to discover! Only this typical Glenrothes-Modrigkeit brings me out of the dream.
Taste: the first impact is violent. Cherry cola, peppery intense oak, roasted nuts and brittle leather. The alcohol is now also something to feel the finish then very much dry Olorosso notes: leather, coffee, tobacco, thickened orange juice, walnuts ... Water softens the "Impact" without falsifying the aroma. Rather, it even frees the sherry and makes the whisky sweeter and creamier. Warm and fully occupies the whole mouth and throat. Very pleasant after the violent start in the mouth. The finish is medium long.
Like really good - looks like a Glendronach Allardice in cask strength with a small shot of Glenrothes character. The Good is very barrel driven and has its strengths clearly in the nose.

    • Nose
Strong sherry notes, very dark and intense, prunes, some sulfur, very ripe.

Again intense sherry, dark dried fruit, balsamic.
    • Finish
Long and dry finish with dark sherry.

    • Nose
Maggi! A really strong sherry board on the nose. Plum compote. Lovage. Liquorice. Oak.
    • Taste
Heavy and sweet. Extremely dark. Again, the taste of Maggi, sweet plums and a lot of spicy oak.
    • Finish
      Extremely long and aromatic.
