Whisky Reviews for Glen Grant 1976 DL

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.95 points

  1. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    • Nose
Old cellar, mushrooms, frangipane, he does not give much. Then, more greedy, round and biscuity. Wine, prunes, blackberries emerge.
With water, more dynamic red fruits, beautiful depth.
    • Taste
Big sherry lurking. Undergrowth. It is fluid in texture. Sweet spices on the finish.
      With water, it is lighter.
    • Finish
The spices are denser than in the mouth, with clove and a more marked woody.
The water emphasizes the intensity of this malt.

      Enthusiasm 4/5

sherry sherry color, for an old distillery
    • Nose
      it causes!
honey, caramel a little overcooked, spices on cinnamon, nutmeg, mushrooms, mildew, old leather, waxing
dark chocolate, coffee too, marinated fruits and baked on the fireplace with grapes first
    • Taste
very heavy sherry, candied grapes, sweet, black berries too and prunes!
pastry sensation of vanilla concentrate, coffee extract, marc,
the soaked wood causes, gives off scents of candied almond,
dusty leather, but well maintained in return.
    • Finish
long, on grapes, leather, wood, on caramelized fruits, one feels the still melted caramel which dries.

  3. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Begins wonderfully and then it becomes your usual sherry bomb.
    • Nose
Wow, does this have Karuizawa mixed in?!?! Seriously? A bit of a funky sherry, there's some portobello mushroom, also cinnamon spice. Mind you, I don't think we are smelling sulfur, just something that I think will be very yummy. Beyond those aromas, there is the usual deep raisiny, chocolatey, winey sherry notes, but these take a back seat to the initial funk.
    • Taste
Again, there is a slight Karuizawa note to this, but only initially. Afterwards. there is a predominance of your usual heavy sherry notes. Could be a Glendronach or a sherried Glengoyne, albeit, very good ones.
    • Finish
A nondescript heavy sherry finish -- some cocoa, raisins, but also a hint of star anise, liquorice, and peppercorn at the end.

Fruity and spicy aroma, red apples, prunes,

oak, nutmeg, anise, leather, coffee, vanilla and lime. Liqourice sweet

and tannic taste, pepper, espresso, cinnamon, vanilla and hops. Long,

    tannic and spicy end.
