Whisky Reviews for Knockdhu 2007 MBl

My first Knockdhu and again a new experience. The nose is very fruity and floral, but is dominated by a musty Kuhstallnote. This combination is very interesting. The taste and finish of almost fine fruity elements are more; Leather, tobacco and tart wood notes dominate. Over the finish and taste is a tart and intense walnut note. A very interesting malt, but different.
    • Nose
Relatively "young" sherry aromas stand out of the glass, with young I mean more floral and fruity sherry notes. Over time, the sherry becomes slightly musty, straw and hay aromas are added, while a subtle smoke and tobacco note develops. Slowly, fine leather aroma and chocolate come through the fruity berries. Although the alcohol is harmoniously integrated, the nose is now slightly sprittig. The musty aroma is intensified and sweet Rumtopf mixed with fragrant hay and straw. Subtle cow barn muff now dominates the nose.
    • Taste
Creamy and sweet the Knockdhu flows over the tongue. Strong and intense oak flavors mix with the first sip with a light pinch of pepper. Pleasant sharpness emits a plump warmth. A subtly bitter and tart walnut aroma is created, dry wood elements are added. Wet leather and damp tobacco leaves mingle with the harsh wood.
    • Finish
Wet leather and tobacco aromas still predominate, the dry and dry wood returns, roasted aromas are created. Unripe walnut flavors become more intense and end in a wet foliage-nut mixture, a subtle fruity note lies over the finish.

So I do not think it's bad, almost undervalued, find him a good drinking whisky for when you do other things or like to rest in the evening, for guests by the sweetness, etc.
    • Nose
Pure caramel sauce, vanilla, cocoa with milk, smells really delicious and inviting, but also rather monotonous, like a bag of sweets, some apricot ice cream on the backside, cinnamon, Leibniz butter biscuits, a bit alcoholic
    • Taste
Very sweet start as expected, good alcoholic, slightly burning punch unfortunately, but then nice apricot sweets, peach, lychee, yellow fruit and milk chocolate, vieeel toffee, hazelnut, vanilla, cinnamon, raisin, nice tannins for the age, milk cocoa
    • Finish
Dry, slightly bitter, this is where the young age is most noticeable, toffee with a dash, some malt now, cocoa, some furniture polish, some light raisins

Reminds me a bit Blair Athol 12 F & F is less awesome
    • Nose
roasted cereals, heavy malty sweetness, honey, cotton candy, roasted almonds, apricot jam, tobacco and lots of old leather, chocolate - subtle fruit notes
    • Taste
very sweet, spicy tobacco, mint, aniseed, cigarette ash, honey, citrus, baking cocoa and chocolate, nuts
    • Finish
warming, oily, spicy, sweet, sticky Liquorice- long finish slightly spritig but still delicious

A very honest sherry! But who lacks a little personality perhaps. (Plus, he does not know how to swim) Enthusiasm 3/5 Whisky n ° 1351
    • Nose
Almonds, blackberries, but especially nuts, initially. Pretty young and vivacious. The volume of aromas is quite limited. A nice nose, typical of a sherry cask, but enough mat. With a little water: splash! There are no more there.
    • Taste
Juicy, vinous (red fruits). Beautiful alcoholic integration! Water reveals some nice butterscotch notes
    • Finish
It's beautiful ! Easy but quite intense. It is long and persistent, with spices and cooked fruits.

Too bad that is clearly missing a few years in the barrel for a good whisky, where the nose promises a lot, unfortunately disappointing in terms of taste.
    • Nose
beautiful first nose with lots of sweet, fresh apple and orange chocolate, no stinging alcohol, some oak, sherry, nuts, very sweet sultanas, some malt beer, sweetened orange peel, canned mandarins, some youth hides behind the sherry, quite a few tart flavors (spice, Leather) are now more apparent, even if the youth is felt, he is already very well developed for 9 years.
In the second nose nice sweet with more caramel, honey and malt
    • Taste
sweet, tingling and unfortunately somewhat sharp, metallic onset, then spicy tobacco and wood notes emerge, distinct sherry, oranges, chocolate, nuts, raisins, but noticeably young and racy.
In the coming gulps, the immature impression becomes clear.
    • Finish
In the finish, the unripe note is most noticeable, oak, sherry and sharp bitter, slightly leathery aromas. Unfortunately, the finish is quite long.

  9. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

I just received the sample as a bycatch in a Maltman set, but I'm positively surprised. The Sherry is not too intrusive and the Knockdhu character is still good. Overall, he could be a little stronger, but all in all there is a thumbs up.
    • Nose
Very fresh and light, the first impression is more floral than fruity, hayloft, grated lemon peel, sweet pear, spicy leather and tobacco, with the time flash a little darker and heavier sherry tones, a little espresso chocolate with nut, barely noticeable alcohol
    • Taste
creamy in the mouth, oily, starts flowery with some acidity, chocolaty, but then very nutty, hazelnut, slightly fruity in the background, then comes through some dry oak, but massive nut, then espresso, the alcohol is very well integrated, but pushes also the taste less forward than expected by 50%
    • Finish
still nut, now slightly toasted, the often quoted Nutellatoast sounds here, behind it slightly pearly with a slightly dry impact, as from the shell
