  1. GlenSikkes did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Tasting Notes by producer;

    Cask details;
    Distillate from 2009 and 2010 aged in a mixture of first-fill bourbon and sauternes casks.

    Tasting Notes;

    Nose
    Barbecue-charred kippers. A single espresso shot with three sugar cubes stirred in, served with gingerbread men. The smoke is dark and dense, like damp peat burning in a grate.

    Palate
    Thick and creamy, with tangy spice and heavy peat smoke. The flavours of charred ribs in barbecue sauce marry perfectly with rich cherry compote, ground sea salt and black peppercorns.

    Finish
    Aniseed and old-fashioned liquorice sweets linger.

  2. Donwaldorf scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    A young (too young?) Whisky that would have deserved a longer maturation for a better balance. It remains coherent as a whole and will still please the lovers of Octomore.
    • Nose
      Spicy, he tickles the nostrils. In any case we do not make a mistake, it's peaty. I would say even more, we are on a farm peat, oily and earthy. There are also cooked fruits that mix with the ashes.
    • Taste
      Attack very frank, the 60.3% are felt fairly quickly. This burns the throat, the integration of alcohol is to be reviewed. Nevertheless, once this disappointment passed, we find the same aromas as the nose. There are cooked fruits, flambé fruits and of course peat moss. Everything is accompanied by a hint of salt.
    • Finish
      Long on smoke, peat and ashes.

  3. Jean Claude Dusse scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    Alcohol, alcohol, alcohol. The 60, 3% alcohol is felt and this, even after more than 15 minutes to take the air.
    Add water so that this "young" Octomore (Too Young) opens a little more and the alcohol dissipates. Alas, the unctuous, syrupy side I can find in an Octomore fades. With or without water. Peat more discreet than most Octomors. Pepper (when adding water) lemon, fruits.
    In the end, a mixed opinion. We would want more pep, and that fat, syrupy side that I can not find.
    Pity.

    N: We are in business! - with toffee smoked peat and assured ‘power’.
    T: A confident start with a vibrant edginess, one that cruises easily & settling sweetly i.e. [great form]
    F: Sweet allium vegetal peatiness with light smoke.
    C: Right up there with the official bottlings.
    Scores a B[+]

    A great kick of different flavours. Next to the obvious peaty and salty dominant parts, you've got enough citrus/ soft vanilla and sweetness to balance it out.
    Still I don't think these youngsters deserve the huge pricing.
