The 2016 release marks the 4th annual edition of Angel’s Envy cask strength bourbon. Produced by the Louisville Distilling Company, Angel’s Envy Cask Strength is made up of Kentucky bourbon that’s been aged up to 7 years in new, charred 53-gallon American white oak barrels. The bourbon is then finished in ruby port casks.The 2016 release happens to have a feature not previously seen in any of their cask strength expressions; cloudiness. Production manager Kyle Henderson stated that this was due to the particulates created by wooden spirals that were left in several of the port barrels used in the finishing process, ultimately releasing sediment into the spirit. While unexpected, Henderson and team felt the extra wood exposure gave the whiskey pleasant flavor components that had yet to feature in any previous cask strength releases.
