A really unusual sample! the oily and creamy character is impressive, as well as the interplay of dried berries with the tart and wooden elements. The indefinable herbal note for me is interesting, as are the musty and musty notes. As I said, different but interesting.
    • Nose
Creamy amber rests in the glass, on the glass wall single long streaks pull their tracks. The nose is initially a bit sprittig, the alcohol tickles slightly in the nose. Slightly musty and moldy notes dissolve from dried berries and grapes, do I smell a hint of sulfur? Subtle roasted aromas and dried fruits dominate the nose before sweet elements are pushed into the foreground. Slightly acidic citrus flavors mingle with green apple, with caramel and vanilla in the background. Creamy and slightly nutty, the malt rests in the glass, a hint of herbs follows, until this discreet musty Muffaroma sets again. The nose is very creamy and pleasantly sweet, here and there the dried raisins and sour citrus fruits sparkle.
    • Taste
Sweet and creamy with a slightly tart impact, the malt flows over the tongue. Explosive sharpness is distributed throughout the entire palate. White pepper and chili lie around the tongue powerfully and warming. The second sip also heats up the palate with its sharp base note. The peppery aromas slowly dissipate and leave spicy wood tones in combination with hazelnuts and dried grapes. Again, an indefinable herbal touch dissolves, oily and creamy, the different flavors swim in the mouth. Although this malt has a noticeable sharpness, the basic character is rather sweet and creamy. The wood tones are more intense and nutty, echoes of milk chocolate and spicy wood chips are in the foreground.
    • Finish
The spicy wood elements convey a harsh basic note to the oily finish. Nuts and raisins play with each other, tart elements stand in contrast to sweet chocolate and velvety fruit flavors. Again show herbs and dark chocolate. Here and there, citrus flavors and dried raisins are flashing, before the aftertaste sounds creamy and oily with a subtle salty note. For a long time stick strange flavors on the palate, the aftertaste flames up again and changes his character.

N: malt, dusty, sweet, cooked fruit and a pastry side, dry nuts and young as candied in alcohol!
B: the sweet side, then candied fruits, nuts, hazelnuts, it's fat!
    wood too, dust
F: short to mid-long, the irremediable weak point.

Again one of the many idiosyncratic Couvreur whiskeys. In the nose it looks quite bubbly, but in the mouth it has a great oily play of aromas (amazing for its age). The musty note is at the limit of what I still like. Overall, however, there is somehow missing that certain something that I appreciate so much about Overaged, for example. With a view to the price, I prefer to grab the Overaged CS right away despite the surcharge, because it is clearly ahead for me.

    • Nose
Dried fruit, light acidity, citrus; a little vanilla and right behind it I have a slight herbal note; Here and there a hint of caramel and a delicate wood note
    • Taste
sweet; nice and creamy; immediately a great wood note, which becomes stronger and more spicy. Dried fruit, delicate bitter note (almost chocolate), nut

Nose that bothers me a little because of the notes of varnish and sulfur, presence of wood, prunes and nuts mixed with oriental spices.

On the palate we are dealing with something quite beefy sherry well textured leaving room for an intense finish on wood and spices. beautiful persistence

Not really my profile but those who like sulfur and varnish can find it very good.

  12. larswehmeier scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Pleasantly mild and soft. But also a little unobtrusive.
    • Nose
Reminds me of a sweet liqueur at the beginning. A lot of sweet honey. Alcohol barely noticeable in the nose. Overall, initially reserved. After the first sip, nutty flavors of almond and hazelnut are added.
    • Taste
Very mild and soft. Again, first of all, a lot of sweet honey. Then comes some oak and a few nuts on the palate. No deviations from the nose.
    • Finish
Mild and soft. Pleasantly sweet with a fine spiciness. Medium.

Sweet nose, with a good dose of toffee, sulfur, and prunes. On the palate, powerful sherry giving way to an intense and spicy finish. With water, the nose is a little more fuzzy and only the caramel floats. In the mouth, we do not lose the intensity, but the spices are calmed a little. Enthusiasm 3/5

  15. Lorion scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

The goal Couvreurs, to show that even an extremely young product can be soft and round, has succeeded. But I would leave it at that, quite pleasant, but just unspectacular and personally too expensive for me. 79 points.
    • Nose
Pleasant, nutty-sweet nose. But also quite unspectacular.
    • Taste
For a strong 50% on a not even three year old "not-yet-whisky" rather soft and creamy. Slightly sweet, something, grapes, a hint of vanilla.
    • Finish
      Medium long and unspectacular.

  18. Whisky-Connaisseur did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

A very aromatic, well-sherried "whisky" (less than 3 years old)
with a distinct and lively walnut character deeper within. Very
flavourful with a pleasant balance of fruit, chocolate and
walnuts. Reminds me a bit of sweet walnut liqueur. Water opens this
dram quite nicely bringing spiciness and vibrancy to the fore. Enticing
    and very tasty!

I thank Frank Jerger from Whisky for Life for the sample!

    • Nose
The nose starts off with flavours of dark grapes, raisins, and sherry.
Very sweet, liqueur-like with dominating notes of walnuts. Reminds me of
      trail mix. An enticing
      nose!
    • Taste
Lovely sweet on the palate with a delicate mix of dark grapes, raisins,
Demerara sugar and sherry flavours. A pleasant nuttiness emerges with
      walnuts in particular,
coated with dark bitter chocolate, followed by a hint of pepper and
oak towards the finish. Very nice!
    • Finish
The finish is medium long with grapes and a touch of marzipan. Slightly
salty nutty flavours, lovely mixed with coffee and dark bitter chocolate
      on the tail.
With water: Lots of grapes, even pomace-like
flavours emerge by adding a few drops of water. The walnut aroma is
still very present, followed by a slightly floral note. Sweet
with luscious grapes, raisins and sherry. Water brings in some
spiciness with white pepper and prickling oak. More vibrant on the
tongue. The finish is medium long, sweet and creamy with grapes,
walnuts and a slightly warming spicy edge. Hints of dark chocolate
      on the tail.

Tasted in the context of a Michel Couvreur comparative sample.
    • Nose
Apple, sherry, sweet and sour, lovage, vanilla, sour grape
    • Taste
very soft body, apple, sweet, grape, little wood
    • Finish
Malt, a bit of wood, classic, slightly sherry, medium-long

  20. Abadon05 scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Quite a very own Couvreur with its own taste. Delicious.
    • Nose
Raisins, grapes and a sweetness create a unique smell. In particular, the sweetness is salient and reminds less of a whisky than a liqueur.
    • Taste
      Grapes, nut, chocolate
    • Finish
salty with bitter almond as well as the grapes. There is also a dark mid-length finish with nuances of coffee and dark chocolate.
